Beads have been a big part of my life since I left teaching (taught middle school students art for 14 years) in 1984 when I began an antique jewelry business. The glass beads from Venice and Czechoslovakia became my passion; I sought them out everywhere I went to buy. Wisely I saved my favorites, sadly I could not save them all.
When I had the chance to make my own beads, I jumped at the opportunity. In 1997 I went to Corning to study with Paul Stankard at the Studio of Glass. He taught me to strive for a level of excellence I hope someday to achieve. Since then, I have explored many avenues in the world of art glass and continue to combine my love of glass bead making with my love of nature.
The glass beads that I create are an extension of who I am.
I grew up in NYC and gleaned the cultural diversity and excitement that it offers but I always yearned to be where nature would surround me.
I taught scuba diving in the Keys and Bahamas. I have hiked in many beautiful places and now live in the shadow of the cliffs of the Shawungunk Mountains. They serve me well with their inspiring, ever changing views.
My beads have won several national awards and were chosen to represent the International Society of Glass Beadmakers in their 10th anniversary traveling art exhibit and auction called Obsession in 2002.
Several of my works have been published in Lapidary Journal, a magazine for jewelry designers.
My work is included in BEADAZZLED WHERE BEADS AND INSPIRATION MEET by Penelope Diamanti.
A landscape bead and a forged sterling necklace were chosen in 2007 to represent the ISGB at the Glass Art Society Conference show "Metamorphosis".
In the Spring of 2008, my work was published in the new book for beadmakers, "GLASS BEAD WORKSHOP" BY JERI WARHAFTIG.
Currently my Butterfly Pendant Article is published on Step by Step Wire Jewelry's new Beading Daily web page so check it out.
