East Bay Community Foundation

The Pleasant Hill Community Foundation was founded in 1987 to promote and support educational, recreational, cultural and other activities for people living and working in the Pleasant Hill area. It is one of nearly 500 U.S. community foundations that collect resources and funds given by local citizens interested in enhancing and supporting the quality of life where they live.

Our mission to help maximize the current and long-term impact of charitable activities in our community while providing donors with significant financial advantages, tax savings and recognition is realized by providing grants to activities of local non-profits as well as acting as an investment conservator for the endowment funds of other local nonprofits such as the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, Senior Center, Friends of Rodgers Ranch, Pleasant Hill Historical Society and Friends Abroad. Our affiliation in 1994 with the East Bay Community Foundation has provided us with professional investment of our funds as well as guidance in developing better ways of serving our community. Oliver Holmes - In Memoriam

Oliver Ollie Holmes, one of the original founders of the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation in 1986, and most recently Director Emeritus, passed away on Nov. 7, 2007. He was a longtime Pleasant Hill resident and former Pleasant Hill mayor known for his community service and commitment to public parks. He served on the Pleasant Hill City Council (1980 to 1989) and was twice mayor of the City, (1982 - 1983; 1986 -1987), as well as Director of the Redevelopment Agency (1984-1985), when the City developed its Downtown Redevelopment Plan. Holmes also had been a director of the East Bay Regional Park District. He was active in Pleasant Hill's Friends Abroad program, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions Club of Pleasant Hill and was the 1994 Pleasant Hill Citizen of the Year. In 2006, Holmes established with the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation a cash award to be presented to the outstanding employee of the Recreation District, the City or the Chamber of Commerce at the annual Community Awards Night. We shall miss him.
