PHCF CORNERSTONE AWARD

PHCF originated a new award program in 2000 to honor citizens who contribute service and resources under the Foundation's umbrella for the betterment of the community. It was originally named in honor of the late former city council member Martin McLaren, who was a staunch supporter of the Foundation since its beginning in 1987, and a resident who devoted much of his spare time to keeping Pleasant Hill moving forward. Past recipients include Walter N."Walt" Smith, now deceased, a Pleasant Hill resident for over 50 years who was a generous donor to the Foundation as well as other groups; Ted Fuller, a PHCF board member for many years and creator of the CATALYST; Scott Davis, the owner of Magoo's Grill & Bar, for his continuing strong support of the Foundation's work; Michael Harris and Dawn Block who have funded the Block/Harris Education Fund which is used to prepare College Park freshman for the college-track, and the Tikun Olam Scholarship fund (Tikun Olam is Hebrew for "repairing the world") for a graduating senior; and most recently to Tom McCracken, the former General Manager of SunValley Shopping Center, whose sponsorship of the Sunvalley Golf Classic has helped raise over $100,000 for youth programs in this community.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

The PHCF Distinguished Service Award, a cash award of $2,000, recognizes programs and activities of nonprofit organizations that provide significant services to the community. These awards have gone to Onstage Theatre in recognition of its 20 years of quality productions in Pleasant Hill, the Let There Be Lights! committee for its effort to restore the lighting to the public tennis courts at College Park High School, the Save the Pool organization for its outstanding work in helping to restore the community pool at the Pleasant Hill Adult Center/Pleasant Hill Middle School and most recently to Friends of the Library for their continuing support of the Pleasant Hill Library.
