General information:
This association has been organized to: promote the social welfare of the war veterans who served aboard the USS Worcester CL-144; to carry on programs to perpetuate the memory of the deceased veterans who served aboard the USS Worcester and to comfort the survivors; to sponsor or participate in activities of a patriotic nature; and to provide social and recreational activities for veterans who served aboard the USS Worcester.
Reunions:
The USS Worcester has had 16 reunions: (1) Hershey, PA 1990 ~ (2) Worcester, Ma 1991 ~(3) Nashville, TN 1992 ~ (4) Charleston, SC 1993 ~ (5) Cherry Hill, NJ 1994 ~ (6) St. Louis, MO 1995 ~ (7) Pensacola, FL 1996 ~ (8) San Antonio, TX 1997 ~ (9) Worcester, MA 1998 ~ (10) Virginia Beach, VA 1999 ~ (11) Baltimore, MD 2000, ~ (12) Minneapolis, MN 2001 ~ (13) Daytona Beach, FL 2002 ~ (14) Branson, MO 2003 ~ (15) Mobile, AL 2004 ~ (16) Niagara Falls, NY 2005. Our next reunion (17) will be at the Embassy Suites, Deerfield Beach, FL September 15 to 18, 2006. Our 2007 reunion (18) will be at the Surfside Oceanfront Inn and Suites October 12, 13 & 14, 2007at Virginia Beach, VA. Our 2008 reunion(19) will be held at the Radisson WorldGate Resort - 3011 Maingate Lane - Kissimmee, FL September 19, 20 & 21, 2008. (The dates for 2009 will be selected at the 2008 reunion)
Qualifications for Membership:
All persons, sailors and marines, officers and enlisted who were assigned to active United States Navy Service aboard the USS Worcester CL-144;also, all persons who were members of other services who were temporarilly assigned to or transported by the USS Worcester CL-144.
The Association Newsletter:
The Worcester's Rooster - will be sent via USPS upon request - please send Phil Harter your (USPS) mailing address and include phone, division, rank on Worcester, highest rank & dates served on Worcester. A list of our members from your division will be mailed with the newsletter.
Communications:
Newsletters are published quarterly and contain reunion information, information from the Associations officers, enrollment information, letters from shipmates, (and others) E-mail and interesting articles. We encourage ALL former shipmates to send in letters, e-mails, interesting tidbits acquired while serving aboard Worcester ; anything suitable for publication.
Once or twice a year the newsletter will contain a reunion notice form and we ask everyone to make copies, fill them out and send them to your local newspapers, etc..
