About The Barn Raising-Where did you get that name??
Our first business, THE BARN RAISING, began in 1980 in an old barn we moved to our property. The business is now located in a 1895 Dry Goods Store in the quaint village of Rutledge Georgia.
Let me introduce myself, I am Pam Jones an antiques dealer and collector, quilter and eBay seller. If you would like to view my current auctions running on eBay with pictures please click on the "My Gallery Auctions on eBay" link at the bottom of this page. Also look for the link to my new buyers guide on eBay for RARE "Frozen Charlotte and Frozen Charlie" antique dolls.
My husband Paul owns and operates the 100 year old Rutledge Hardware store right next door to the Barn Raising. He builds 18th Century Furniture Reproductions in the back warehouse area when he isn't waiting on customers or visiting with them around the old pot belly stove.
His pieces include Heart Pine Huntboards, Linen Press/Entertainment Centers, Corner Cupboards, Trunks, Tables, Beds, etc all done in Milk Paint finishes. They have been featured in the magazine Country Living among others. His Barn Raising creations can be found for sale and display in stores up and down the East coast from Georgia to Connecticut.
Folks visiting the hardware store enjoy looking through the old double doors into the back warehouse area and watching Paul as he brings his hand-crafted 18th century furniture pieces to life.
We came by the name Barn Raising naturally since our creations (Paul's furniture and my quilts) were originally "raised" in a barn. We were well established as the Barn Raising when we made our move to town so we kept the name.

What We Offer And Where We Are
In the Barn Raising you will find Antiques from Primitive to Victorian.
The front of my shop is filled with Paul's furniture along with antique, unique gifts and collectibles. The back is a treasure trove of antiques, vintage collectibles and antique dolls and accesories, all displayed and set up in room settings.
I specialize in Antique Dolls, especially tiny "Frozen Charlottes and Frozen Charlie" dolls, primitive furniture, salesman sample/child sized antique furniture pieces and other vintage children's items. I love to set up child size table settings with Antique Dolls, tiny vintage linens and tea sets on authenic child size antiques.
I have many handmade items like we used to carry in the old barn. They include handmade candles, pottery and quilts.
At Rutledge Hardware Paul sells a full line of hardware along with old fashioned and hard to find household items. He sells wood stoves and cast iron Lodge cookware featuring camp and dutch ovens, frying pans in all sizes, grills and griddles along with cook tables and tri-pod stands to cook on. He has galvanized tubs in oval and round shapes and many sizes. You'll find Radio Flyer Wagons, Daisy BB Guns, Farm Bells, Milk Paint even screen wire fly swatters!
It's a treat to buy marbles right from the jar or seed from the old seed bin, nails from the revolving nail bin and nuts and blots from the wonderful old oak nut and bolt bin.
Stepping into the Hardware store is like taking a step back in time. We found items dating back to the 1850's on the floor to ceiling shelves that line the walls. The shelves can only be reached from the rolling ladders that travel the length of the store on their cast iron wheels and rails.
Two years after we purchased the Hardware store the Smithsonian Institute paid us a visit. They left here with our Cole Boll Weevil Killer still in it's original heart pine shipping crate. That is all that has left our store of the orginal old store inventory. All other items we discovered can be viewed in the original glass display shelves.
The store was the inspiration for the hardware store in the movie The Legend of Bagger Vance. In fact, many of the antique store items in the movie came from our store. They too can be seen back at home and back in use.
The RR runs right through the center of our little town. You should see the men and boys rush out of the stores to catch a glimpse as it rambles by. It seems little boys (and big ones too) never outgrow their love of trains!
If city life gets too much for you then come on out for a visit. Live too far to visit-WE SHIP-just contact us (info below) for pictures and prices on Paul's furniture, my antiques and the many other items we sell.
HOW DO YOU GET HERE?
We are an easy drive out from Atlanta. Take I-20 East to exit 105 and go left over the bridge. Follow the Hard Labor Creek State Park signs into the little village of Rutledge. We are located downtown at 116 & 118 Fairplay Street.
BIG NEWS IN RUTLEDGE!
On Monday November 19th, 2007 Good Morning America came to visit our tiny town. I had nominated our own Yesterdays Cafe in GMA Weekend's Best Bite Challenge contest. We were filmed on location and the segment aired on Saturday morning November 24th where we were in the final four in the nation. We did not win but came in a close second to 12 Bones Rib House in the much larger town of Asheville, NC. ABC said the online voting went on until midnight with our two restaurants neck and neck right up until the very end. This was quite a feat for a little restaurant in a tiny town of 702 folks!
