Jack the Giant Killer
(1963) (TF) - Fairy tale adventure with an evil magician who transforms
his victims into different animals. Some stop-action models and sparkles.
Hoky but fun.
Atlantis, The Lost Continent
(1963) (TF) - Science fiction movie by George Pal with Edward Platt ('Chief'
on Get Smart) as the only recognizable actor. Lots of effects, and everyone's
favorite - the House of Beasts, where slaves are turned into animals.
A groaner, but fun.
American Werewolf in London
(1981) (TF) - The best transformation scene ever, despite advances in
technology.
The Shaggy Dog (1959)
(TF) - Lighthearted Disney film about a boy who is cursed by an ancient
ring to turn into a Sheepdog. Good cast, good effects for the period.
Originally B&W, but has been colorized.
American Werewolf in Paris
(1998) (TF) - This 'sequal' to AWIL pales beside the original - the effects
are computer-generated, and LOOK it. Still worth a look, if only for the
wide variety of transformations going on.
Pinnochio (1939) (TF)
- Disney's classic movie features that wonderful place called Pleasure
Island, where bad boys get turned into jackasses.
Vice-Versa (1985) (Body
Swap, AR/AP, TG) - A father and son exchange bodies when they touch an
ancient relic. Played for laughs - fun to watch, but little regard for
realism.
Something Wicked This Way
Comes (1984) (AR/AP, TG) - Movie version of Ray Bradbury's novel of
an evil carnival that grants wishes - just not the way people want. Good
movie, lots of transformations - I liked the original novel better for
story.
Overdrawn at the Memory
Bank - 1972 (?) Science Fiction - Quirky little made-for-TV movie
that you can find at some rental places - A bored office worker of the
future finds a banned form of entertainment - cinemas. He is forced to
rehab by vacationing in the mind of a female baboon. One of Raul Julia's
first appearances.
