Dear Praying Friends,
The leaves are beginning to fall, the days are getting shorter, all marking the end of another summer and the beginning of the Autumn season. What a blessed summer we have had. The Lord opened many doors for us to preach the gospel and has introduced us to many new friends. Each and every day we arise excited to see what the Lord has in store of us.
The summer at Mt. Meigs was an action packed one. We had some powerful meetings and saw the Lord save many a young mans soul. The highlight of the summer, as always, was our Endless Summer Revival hosted by Rock of Ages Youth Division under the direction of my good friend Rick Hilderbrand. The team he brought this year did an excellent job. We spent a lot of time in the dorms doing one on one visitation and were even able to bring the revival to those that are housed in our lock down facility.
The Mt. Meigs Complex has grown again and we are now up to 312 boys and 5 girls. Yes I said girls! We now have a special wing in our lock down facility for the girls that come from the Chalkville Campus for Girls in Birmingham. You see they don't have a lock down facility there so the state sends their problem girls to us for a 30-day lock up. We have scheduled three services a week for the girl's, Mondays, Thursdays, and Sunday. Thanks be to the Lord for sending me the help I needed to cover these three new services.
As many of you know I have a very large volunteer staff to help canvas the Mt. Meigs Campus. The facility is so large that there is no physical way I could accomplish this task alone but I do personally hold many services myself. On Mondays I hold two services. One at 6:00 PM in our Orientation dorm where I introduce myself to the new kids, give them a Bible, explain what we offer through the chapel program, and hold a gospel service. After that I hold a gospel service in the lock down unit at 7:15PM. Tuesday is our in-dorm Bible studies when our volunteers go into the dorms to preach and teach the Word of God. I leave myself open on Tuesdays so I may fill in for those unable to make it to their assigned dorm. Thursday evenings I hold my main chapel service, we have as many as 50 to 80 kids attending. Mrs. Myra Golden from Harvest Baptist is our piano player. Mr. Clifford Latham from the Faith Rescue Mission is our new Music Director. The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful team to help conduct our Thursday evening services. The rest of my time is clouded with duties such as meetings with Staff/students, memos, faxes, returning phone calls and handling daily miscellaneous administrative duties.
On June first we began our Bible School for the kids to take right there on campus. 15 lessons have been provided to us, at no charge, by the Liberty Bible Course based in Greenville Michigan. We currently have over 100 young men enrolled and have had 6 to graduate. My wife Carolyn keeps up with the Bible school which has become a full time job for her but she loves every second of it! We have had 13 saved through the first booklet, salvation. When a young man finishes the course we have a graduation exercise in the chapel and let him speak to the congregation. We print beautiful Certificates and give them a huge candy bar. Carolyn also found a great advanced course for those wanting to continue their studies; currently we have 4 enrolled in it.
We would like to say thank you to all of you that support this ministry with your prayers and financial support. We could not fulfill our obligations to these kids if it were not for friends like you. We would like to give a special thank you to Wyldwood Baptist Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the awesome love gift and the 20 cases of Bibles they helped us to get. We also thank the Lord for all the new friends that we have made these past few months. The fine people of Birmingport Baptist Church in Mulga AL and Freedom Baptist Church in Carbon Hill AL. Once again thank you friends and families that help us to help those that cannot help themselves. May the Lord bless you all richly.
Because He First Loved Us,
