Missions Update    Summer 2006

Friday, September 22, 2006

Dear Pastors, Churches, and Praying Friends,

Well it seems that the summer of 06 has passed by in a flash. This has in no doubt been the hardest summer in the ministry that I have ever spent. As you may remember from my last letter that the devil had been working over time at Mt. Meigs. Well our adversary kicked it into high gear through the summer months. The fight was on and the line drawn in the sand, it was time to get to soldiering. (2 Timothy 2:3;  “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”)

For the first time in all my years Muslims infiltrated the camp. As some students began to distribute Muslim materials that attacked the Word of God and began to scream that Allah was god. These materials did in fact confuse some of the Christian boys and cast doubt on their beliefs. Although we have the Bible study and many enrolled still some of the subjects these Muslims addressed would have even shaken most Christians as well. Why the battle went so deep that when we hosted our summer revival with Rock of Ages securitized fights began to flourish in an attempt to lock down the campus. As Bro. Rick Hildebrand and I stood out side the cafeteria we watched security run from one place to another like clockwork. We knew exactly what was going on and that the devil was at work seeking to disturb and destroy.

We all just stood our ground and pressed forward and God as always gave the victory. Through the revival we had 12 young men saved in spite of the oppressions. Chapel attendance has began to rise and I was able to stand my ground and preach a series of messages shinning light on the shadows that was cast of our Saviour and the Bible by the Muslims. 1 Corinthians 15:57;  “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Our bible study has really begun to increase with new students signing up each week. It seems that we now have a graduate every week as well. These are the things that have the devil so aroused. . Although we have an increase in our Thursday chapel services and the Bible school growing our Sunday evening chapel is still floundering. Please continue to pray hard for the ministry as we go toe to toe to hold the truth before the eyes and ears of these lost young men.

I do have an urgent prayer request and plea for help. Three weeks ago I got up on Sunday morning and my right leg was in so much pain that I could hardly walk. By Wednesday I could no longer take it and just had to go to the emergency room. After x-rays, ultra sound (good news I‘m not pregnant!) and an MRI the diagnosis was that I have a severe L5 S1 herniated disk with a protruding fragment not pinching but crushing my sciatic nerve. Doctor Ryan said that it is the worst he has seen in years and if it is not fixed it will cause me permanent damage possibly loosing control of my necessaries and possibly leg damage.  I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday September 26th so please pray.

As you probably don’t know I have no insurance on myself and have already ran up about a $5,000 bill with the hospital in the ER visit, various x-rays and tests. The surgeon and surgery bill is still yet to come so if you can help us in any way with this awesome financial burden it will be deeply appreciated. Please send all donations through Missions to America’s Juvenile Delinquents, PO Box 329, Cropwell, Alabama 32554. Please be sure to designate your gift for Bro. George Trapani surgery. Whatever you can do whether great or small will be deeply appreciated.  If you have any questions you may contact me at (334) 290-0709 or Pastor David Wood at (205) 525-5308.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support of this ministry. Without friends like you we could not do the work we do. Philippians 4:17;  “Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.”
