Missions Update    New Year 2008

Monday 14 January 2008

Dear Pastors, Churches, and Praying Friends,

Brethren can you believe that it is 2008? If anyone can tell me where 2007 went to I sure would like to know. It did end on a blessing though as we got to spend New Years Eve with some cherished friends at one of our supporting churches. We all prayed in the New Year at New Testament Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama which is pastored by my dear friend David Johnson.

The year ended with a bang for us, some good, some bad and some really bad. On a good note since my last letter we have had many things going on. The fall season kicked off in October with our annual fall festival at Mt. Meigs.  As always the chapel was packed with boys from all of the dorms except one. Pastor Boyd Woodard and some members from Bible Baptist Church in Alabaster sponsored the meeting. Pastor Woodward brought a challenging message from that old blessed book and the Spirit of God convicted many. Each boy received a huge bag of candy for attending.

In November we hosted a Thanksgiving Revival with Truth for Troubled Teens in which several boys were saved. I thank God for these men and their ministries. It is ministries such as these that help us keep the chapel attendance for our regular weekly services going. Just as the church needs revival so do I and our young men at Mt. Meigs.

December is still our busiest month of the year. Once again we were able to provide a wonderful Christmas meal for the boys and give each one a gift bag. The awesome cost was once again supplied with help from the Mt. Meigs Advisory Board and various other friends. This year for the first time we were able to give gifts to all the boys in attendance at our Christmas service at the Autauga HIT Program for first time offenders thanks to Faith Bible Church in Houston, Mississippi. In total we were able to give gifts to 368 children at both facilities. Thank you to all that sacrificed to help us be a blessing to these children.

The New Year is not off to a great start. The Mt. Meigs Campus has suffered two major incidents that have made it to the media. One of the incidents involved one of our religious volunteers on the Mt. Meigs Campus. Effective January 11th all religious volunteers will be denied entrance to the facility until background checks and updated paperwork can be received and reviewed. There is no telling how long this may take because we have a lot of volunteers. Please pray that this matter will be settled quickly so that the volunteers may resume their Bible studies in assigned dorms. Now this does not affect me or my work with the boys on campus but it does deliver a serious blow to the distribution of the gospel, so please pray for a speedy resolution.

Please pray hard for our ministry at Mt. Meigs, we need it and need it bad. We are in an awesome fight for the souls of the lost young men of our state. Without your prayers and support we cannot stand. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord in support of this ministry may God bless you all. Happy New Year from the Trapani‘s!
