Chapman Puppet Art
WELCOME!
My name is Dan Chapman.  I am a puppeteer.  I make puppets and sometimes perform them.

This is the cover of an illustrated handbook.  It's a simple, step by step, introduction to making a marionette.  If you'd like to order a copy let me know by e-mail.  The price is $40.00.

Masks
I created 7 masks for a play at Notre Dame University.  A Greek tragedy entitled "The Love of the Nightingale."  I used bicycle helmets as a base to create masks that covered the actor's heads entirely.  The players were transformed into huge life-size puppets.

My Background
I learned how to make puppets from Neil DiTereasa at Berea College in Kentucky.  For five years I was a member of Neil's troupe, A SUMMER PUPPETRY CARAVAN FOR APPALACHIA.  Since the 70's Neil and his students have been making puppets,  touring shows and leading workshops.

For over 10 years I have been making and selling my own puppets.  I am well traveled.  In Egypt I served as a puppet builder and advisor for an educational TV show entitled "Farm of Dreams."  I am a trained art teacher with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati.
