Directions for FourPatch by LDRS HBBY Pat

When sewing a FourPatch block, you press seams in one row one direction and seams in next row in opposite direction so that the seams will nestle.  When you sew those rows together, you either press the long seam up or down.  That results in a "bump" in the blocks.  I learned this method sometime ago from Deborah in Texas.  There are no bumps in these FourPatches!

Patches in Row 1 sewn together.
Patches in Row 2 sewn together.

I have a red pin on upper left patch, so that
you can see where its position is, in relation
to the block in the following pictures.

Do not press seams.

Row 1 is underneath, seam facing down.
Row 2 is on top, seam facing up.
Nestle the seams.
I do not use a pin to nestle, just feel the seams
with your fingers and hold them in place when
putting under presser foot.
Stitch the rows together.
Now, here's the magic part.
Remove the couple, few stitches that are in
the seam allowance.  They are part of the seam that holds the patches in Row 2 together.

Turn over and remove the couple, few stitches that are in the seam allowance that holds the patches in Row 1 together.

Don't even bother to clip those little bits of thread.

Using your fingers, swirl those seams around the center.

Here's a close-up of the swirled seams.  You will notice that each seam goes in a different direction, resulting in a "flat" center -- look, no bump!

A perfectly flat, non-bumpy FourPatch!

If I am going to be sewing this FourPatch to other FourPatches, I DO NOT PRESS at this time.  I find they nestle easier if they are not pressed.

But, if I am going to sew it to a block or border that it will not "nestle" with, then I press it before sewing to other blocks/borders.
