When you "explode" the "End of Day" block a little bit differently,
it is easy to see how this block can be Paper Pieced. I Paper Pieced
my block, cuz it just seemed easier to me.
I suppose I could have put up a webpage with the Paper Piecing template on
it, ready for you to print off, but I thought that I would show you how to
make your own Paper Piecing template. Never know when this information might
come in handy! ;-)
You can draw out a 6" square on graph paper. First, be sure that the
grid on the graph paper is accurate for your quilting needs. Measure
the grid with a ruler that you normally use for quilting. Or you can draw
out a 6" square with a 6" square ruler on plain paper.
 |
Draw a 6" square. |
 |
|
 |
Draw a line for ¼" seam allowance
on one edge of the square. |
 |
|
 |
Draw an X through the square,
from corner to corner. |
 |
|
 |
Draw a ¼" seam allowance on
2 sides of the triangle. |
 |
|
 |
Draw 3 lines, 1½" apart, separating
triangle into 4 sections. |
 |
|
 |
This is what the template looks like
when cut away from the rest of the
drawing. Number the patches. |
You now have a Paper Piecing template for a 6-inch "End of Day" block. You
will need 4 templates for the block. Refer to the Paper Pieced Explosion,
above, for placement.

If you sew
light fabric to Patches 1 & 3,
dark fabric to Patches 2 & 4,
you will get
the block that Rathr made. |

If you sew
light fabric to Patches 2 & 4,
dark fabric to Patches 1& 3,
you will get
the block that Pat made. |
Truth be told -- I was trying to duplicate the positioning of light
and dark in Rathr's block, but, somehow I reversed it...didn't realize it,
until block was complete! I'm keeping it!
If you have EQ4.1, you can draw
out the End of Day block and print it out. It is not available
in the Block Library. BlockBase2 has the block. |
