Choose 3 fabrics -- Light, Medium, Dark You will need:

Light fabric

  • Section A Cut 4 Squares -- 2 1/4"
  • Section E Cut 1 Rectangle - 1 5/8" x 4"

Medium  fabric

  • Section B Cut 4 Rectangle - 2 1/4" x 4"

Dark fabric

  • Section C Cut 8 Squares 2 1/4"
  • Section D Cut 2 Rectangles - 1 5/8" x 4

Directions for sewing: (All seams are 1/4 ".)
**Pay close attention to the exploded block for placement of pieces.

  • Position a Dark Section C square, on the corner of a Medium Section B rectangle. Draw a diagonal line on the dark Section C square. Stitch on the line. Trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch and press. Repeat this process at the opposite corner of the rectangle. This will form the flying geese unit. Repeat this process for the other 3 Medium Section B rectangles to make three more flying geese units.  See Block 8 for construction of Flying Geese units.
  • Join a Dark Section D rectangle, to a Light Section E rectangle, then add the last Dark Section D rectangle. This makes the center square unit.

Assembling the Block -- Check the block diagram often!!!!

  • Join a Light Section A square to a flying geese unit, then add another Light Section A square.
  • Join a flying geese unit, to the middle square unit, then add another flying geese unit.
  • Join a Light Section A square to a flying geese unit, then add another Light Section A square.
  • Sew block's rows together.
  • Don't forget to sign and date this block in the light section of the center square unit.

Yippee, Block Number 12 is now completed and done just in time for Christmas!

Aren't you proud of yourself? Hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have!

Have a joyful holiday season!

*Note: There are many ways to make 1/2 square triangles,
you may wish to use an alternate method than that stated here.
