I adore sunsets. It's like watching a movie that nature puts on. It is best, of course, when one gets to watch the sun setting over the lake.

Most of all, though, I love Israel. It is my dream to move there someday and raise my children in the Land of my Ancestors. Without this dream I would be completely lost.

This, the Western Wall, or Kotel Ma'aravi, is supposedly the holiest site remaining in Israel. Though I cannot say that all of my experiences there have been spiritual, they have certainly been intensely emotional and I cannot discount its significance to my devotion.

A broken heart my muse,
Pierced soul my inspiration
I am doomed to write
Poems of fleeting love.
My pen a quivering lip
Each word a tear
Moistening my soft
Lonely cheek.
Hopelessly romantic,
I am eternally subject
To love's whim.
I cannot -- will not --
Break the
Cycle.
Never beloved
Always lover
I remain
Confined within
My own
Heart.
-R.B.S. 4 May 2000

To the poet, a day without her pen
Is like being bound and gagged
So in the eve she is inspired
And her poems flow onto paper
And you see her feelings and desires
Displayed across the page
Yet you do not know
If she be Venus or the Troll Under the Bridge
You only are acquainted
With the innermost layer
Of her heart, only
Her love, pain and fear
And as your eyes follow her penstrokes
You become enthralled
And you reach to grasp her meaning
And you feel her soul between your fingers
And then it ends, no more song.
The rhyme is over
You return to life as usual
And she, the poet, is forgotten.

Kisses of chocolate
Lonely and self-invoked
The only passion
Received by she
Who withered in the stiff,
Soul-sucking heat.
Lack of appreciation
Clouded over her heart
And spirit.
Her stamina lessened
She fought her battles
Sheerly with resolve
To carry on --
But her inner-flame was weakened,
Her future a shadow,
Her life merely
An existence.
And she continued
Even in sickness.
Every hell through which
She lived
Wounding her yet
Rewarding her
With lasting strength.
-R.B.S. 4 July 1999
-----
Skin deep beauty washed away
By resolve to return to normalcy
Unseen by your eyes
Tonight I was radiant
And now your eyes,
Closed with slumber
Will never see me in full glory
I wish these things to change
For my beauty to remain when
Washed away,
For your eyes to rest on me
But in my exhaustion
I have transformed
Back to my moth-like appearance
Again, I am me.
But me never gets noticed...
