CHRISTMAS BEAR ON MY RUG

I have a Christmas Bear on my rug.
My little sister likes to give him a hug.
But don’t worry, my Christmas Bear isn’t wild…
In fact, he is just right for a child.
My Christmas Bear is very tame
and has a very silly name.
My Christmas Bear is super soft
and full of fuzzy fun…but he can
only sit, not run.
My Christmas Bear has two
button eyes and a tiny nose, and
he wears two ribbons tied into a bow.
The name of my Christmas Bear,
if you really would like to know,
is Silly-Willy, Fuzzy-Wuzzy,
Buttons and Bows.
Although my Christmas Bear is
stuffed with hay, I still love
him each day. So, I sit in my
room with my Christmas Bear on
the rug and give him a kiss and a
great big hug.

CRYSTALIZED WINTER ICICLES
Copyright 2000 Valerie Hardin

Crystallized water that dripped
From the sides of rooftops
Frozen curiosities…
that make winter
Some make snowmen
Lacy snowflakes…
still fall onto the ground
In the celebration of winter
As people watch from inside
STOCKING STUFFERS

Candy canes, toy boats and planes.
Cowboys and Indians and colorful tins.
Dolls that talk and dolls that walk.
Apples, oranges and pears…
Giant stuffed Teddy Bears.

1. I wish for candy.

2. I wish that some people would give food

3. I wish for a surprise.

4. I wish everyone would have
love for each other.

WHY WE HANG OUR STOCKINGS

The tradition of hanging
Christmas Stockings by the
fireplace was started by
the Dutch many centuries ago.
In Holland, Dutch children
believed that Saint Nick
would arrive Christmas
Eve riding on a snow-white
horse and leave them gifts.
The night before Christmas,
the children would leave
their wooden shoes before
the fire-place and hay
for the horse.
In the morning (if Saint
Nick had come by) the hay
would be gone, and there
would be candies or fruit
left in the children’s
wooden shoes.
When the Dutch came to
America in the early 1600’s,
they replaced, the wooden
shoes with stockings…that
now… “we hang by the
chimney with care.”
SNOW BALLS
Copyright 2000 Valerie Hardin

Snowflakes fall, one after another,
Reflecting light ---
Until the snow, looks like rainbow glitter…
In a glass ball, shaken by hands unseen.
Music floating through each flake ---
To those making…angel imprints bellow.
SNOWFLAKES

Tiny white snowflakes twirling
Shimmer brightly while swirling
Dancing in frosty moonlight
Floating through the night
Sifting to the ground
Falling without a sound
WINTER TUNES
