When driving across the desert stick to the paved road and whatever you do, do not stop in Weaver. Weaver is an old ghost town that has been desolate since 1948. It does not even appear on any maps. Some say Weaver is haunted. Others speak of the radiated descendants of people exposed to nuclear testing and claim they are not human. Some even claim the town is infested with extraterrestrials. However no one knows for sure and no one has ever been able to find any conclusive evidence of anything because anyone who enters Weaver never returns.
Former “LA Law” Co-Stars Harry Hamlin and Susan Dey reunite for this eerie tale of what happens when a family tries rationalize what they cannot understand when they ignore warnings and get stranded in the desert. When their son’s friend disappears, the family finds itself in a dire situation as an unseen and predatory force that sometimes hides itself within a traveling sandstorm preys upon their very lives.
Film in Australia, “Disappearance” is a good creepy thriller that offers no easy answers and no tight resolutions. This might turn off some viewers, but the film does offer some interesting clues that yield repeated viewing to make the connections. I am not saying there is a definitive answer, but there is something there and for a made for television thriller, this spooky little film focuses on what counts the most, telling a suspenseful and disturbing story.
