Modeling in Sugar Land
As a train enthusiast, I not only photograph and ride the real ones, I try to recreate them in miniature. I model primarily in N scale but dabble in G, 027, H0, H0n3 and Nn3. I have NTRAK modules that represent Sugar Land, Texas in 1951. I try to recreate the trains that ran through town in that era on the Southern Pacific, Santa Fe and Missouri Pacific railroads.
I now have 26 feet of NTRAK modules that represent the Southern Pacific (Texas
& New Orleans) Sunset Limited Route as it passes through Sugar Land. On the
East it starts at the old John Deere implement dealer and on the West it ends with the
state prison made famous in the movie "Sugar Land Express."
Along this mainline the Santa Fe also ran its passenger trains using track rights to get
from tower 17 in Rosenberg to Houston. The Missouri Pacific had its own branch line
to reach town.
