Sam Houston Zephyr

CB&Q E5

This engine is kit bashed from a Life Like E6. Sections of the sides with the windows were removed and flipped to give me the upper letter boards. New styrene was inlayed to fill in and new smaller windows were cut. The fluting is made from strips of Williams Bros. Aluminum Siding that is glued on. The number boards and some of the upper headlight were removed and a lower headlight added.

Passenger Cars

These are stock Kato corrugated cars with just a few changes made. All but the baggage car have new names that Kato did not offer. The first coach has a partition in the chair section because it was a Jim Crow car used during segregation. The second chair car has the seats reversed to put the vestibule in back. The last two car are a standard chair car and the lounge observation. All but the 3rd an 4th car are exact prototypes of the actual cars that ran on this train in the early 1950s.

The Photograph

I took the photo out of doors on my trusty diorama. I have better luck with "natural" light.
