These items are the opinions and recommendations of the editor. Your response is urged. Send e-mail to me, Ray Beery: RBeery@aol.com -------------------------------------------------- Dec. 26 ... Helpful County Staff
Concerned about construction projects on the Lansdowne campus, an active Leisure World citizen paid a visit to county offices this week. She reported that several hard-working staffers were most courteous and helpful. So, at this season of good will, let me name those names, and say thanks!
Mohamed H. Haroun, Team Leader/Engineer, mharoun@loudoun.gov Neelam Henderson, Engineer, nhenderson@loudoun.gov Amin Hawrami, Engineer, ahawrami@loudoun.gov Jim Edmonds, Water Resources Engineer, jedmond1@loudoun.gov Barbara Zimmerman, Maps Project Manager, bzimmerm@loudoun.gov, Ginny Rowen, Planner, growen@loudoun.gov --------------------- Nov. 16 ... Conservancy vs. Conservation
For several months, concerned voices from Leisure World have been questioning development activities around Lansdowne. Rather than conserving plots of ancient woods, a superb nature trail and landscaped street borders, bulldozers plowed straight through them to denude several areas. Why so?
The president of the Lansdowne Conservancy reports that an addendum to the Conservancy's long-standing Design Guidelines relaxed requirements and permitted construction contractors to put our grounds into the condition we see.
This is a discouraging situation. This reporter suggests that you join with others in a reasoned dialog with your Conservancy Directors to seek a return to true Conservation in future construction projects.

Letters to the Editor
Dec. 28 … Library for Archives
Ray - From time to time I need to go back for an older article in the Washington Post. After a few weeks, the Post charges for their archived items. If you go into the online library Ashburn site with your library card number, you can get all sorts of archived items (not only from the Post) for free. What a great deal! MiMi Altstatt Blue Ridge ----------------------- Dec. 25 ... Blood Drive
Dear Ray, On the third Thursday of every month there is a blood drive at Loudoun Hospital starting at 1130. Many of our residents are regulars. It is a privilege to help others. Walk-ins are accepted. Appointments may be made by calling 1-866-256-3612. Jerry Brown of Riverbend coordinates and does all the reminder calls. Age is not a factor in donating. Thanks for this reminder. Best, Celeste Brodigan of Riverbend
