Basics...
My name is Rick (the Cat) Bloomquist and I live in Miami. My friends call me Rick the Cat because I look like one. I was born February 8, 1952. I am a widower and the children I helped raise are all adults now. I give music lessons for a living (keyboard, piano, bass, guitar and voice) and I also have a small digital/MIDI recording studio in my home. I live in the Imperial Apartments, on SW 77th, just a two block walk South of Kendall Drive.

In my spare time I write software that teaches music interactively. Right now I am upgrading my software to be able to teach contemporary musical styles online, from Heavy Metal to Jazz Fusion. In the meantime new students are always welcome!
Feel free to get in touch even if you are not sure exactly what you want to do. No one is going to pressure you or pitch a lesson package. I am very low-key, user-friendly and non-judgemental. The lessons are all satisfaction guaranteed.
I wholesale information where most teachers retail it, handing it out with tweezers. One lesson with me can keep you busy a long time, teaching yourself comfortably and confidently. I give you a free book with each lesson, which I wrote especially for that lesson. Each lesson is a home -study course in its own right. I can be the last teacher you will ever need, because I can make you self-taught for life, with all the ingredients for a comprehensive musical education. The lesson is tailored to your goals, interests, and needs, and if you can't do what I show you, the lesson is free.
I also offer a special program for kids, with an emphasis on a positive successful learning experience. If a kid can't learn the way I teach, I will teach the way he learns!

Nationally Certified MTNA.
From '78 on taught beginning-advanced theory and technique to students of all ages, levels, and styles from Heavy Metal & Rock, to Jazz, Blues & R & B, to Jazz Fusion, for keyboards, piano, guitar electric bass, and voice. If people like it, I have probably taught it.
Besides teaching, I am a member of a development team writing interactive courseware in Authorware & Dreamweaver which teaches advanced contemporary musical styles interactively. We haven't made a lot of money yet, but we're having a lot of fun!
I currently live in South Miami, but I have taught at Berkeley School of Music, as well as privately in Toronto, Cleveland, Chicago, and Manhattan.
I own a small digital/MIDI studio in South Miami, where I give the bulk of my lessons and classes, but I can also go to the home.
A number of my students have gone on to successful careers, performing on MTV, VH1, and BET. Others of my students have simply aspired to deepen their love for their instrument. Who the winner is - the jury is still out!

My Interests...
I am into Eric Clapton, 80's Rock, Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens, Elton John, the Eagles, Metallica, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Boston, Thelonius Monk, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Sting, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Sonny Rollins, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Frank Zappa, MC Hammer, Dizzy Gillespie, Van Halen, B.B. King, Billy Joel, and I enjoy jazz, classical, R & B, and gospel in general. I like skiing, motorcycles, ice skating, and white water canoeing, although I haven't done that last one for a long time. I also like camping in the woods with friends. My hobby is writing Hypercard stacks, and WEB applications in Authorware & Dreamweaver. And if you like cats you are definately a friend of mine - you just don't know it yet! Most of all I am interested in people - all ages, sizes, shapes, and varieties. That's why I do what I do.
