Gemstone Mandalas

Spiral Mandala

Crystals and gemstones have been used for centuries as companion enhancers with many healing modalities such as Reiki, Crystal Energy, Massage, Color therapy and Chiropractic. Crystals are also used as psychic aids, in metaphysical ceremonies, by Medical Intuitives, crystal dowsers or even with meditation. Many card readers will use gemstones to enhance their readings or add their meaning or properties to astrology charts.

In my reserach for information on mandalas I found a variety yet similar group of meanings. Some say that the word mandala is Sanskrit for circle, polygon, community or connection. Others say Mandala is a word meaning 'whole world' or 'healing circle' or even 'center of the Universe in which a fully awakened being abides'. Circles suggest wholeness, unity, completion and eternity. From Native American and Tibetan sand paintings to Gothic rose windows and Hindu yantras, everyone seems to agree that mandalas are Universal symbols used for meditation, prayer, spiritual journey, protection and healing.

Our Western culture is familiar with mandalas primarily because of the work of Carl Jung who became interested in them while studying Eastern religion. Jung saw the circular images his clients experienced as movement towards psychological growth, inner reconciliation and wholeness, and expressing the idea of safe refuge. For Jung, mandalas are 'vessels' into which we project our psyche. It is then returned to us as a way of restoration. He recognized that archetypes from many cultures were seen in the spontaneous expression of the unconscious.

Mandalas can be viewed as keys that unlock the mysteries of our soul's architecture. If we choose to use them in this way, they can lead us deep into the mysteries of our inner world. Mandalas are generally geometric designs, drawings, or spirals in a variety of eye-catching colors that emit energies and inaudible resonating harmonic sounds. These sounds and energies are acknowledged by our psyche to help on different levels of self-healing.

When one meditates on a spiral mandala, the power energies are swirled or combined to offer help in all aspects of ones life. This is an intense and busy design and should be used cautiously by those who are ready for 'action', 'change' or 'manifestation' in their lives. This type of mandala can also be used to quickly stimulate and strengthen all chakras for a short period of time when slowly waved over each chakra area. Because of its intensity it should not be used on any one chakra for an extended period of time.

Many other mandalas contain a lesser geometric pattern or artistic design to offer a subtle array of energies to be absorbed through meditation, touch, or eye contact. Oddly enough, most UFO Crop Circles contain geometric patterns that can also be copied to design mandalas. Therefore one might say that Crop Circles are related to Mandalas.

As the Tibetan monk Lobsand Samtem states: "Each individual person who sees and meets the mandala has a different experience. May your encounters with mandalas be filled with deep understanding and peace."
