1997 GLADNEYS IN AMERICA FAMILY
ASSOCIATION REUNION

JULY 24-27
WINNSBORO, FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA
Meeting at the Fairfield Motel, some of the
Gladney Clan began to arrive on Tuesday, July 22nd. Dr. James
& Margaret Gladney, Cynthia Gladney Steele, Charles Sidney
Gladney, Gene & Bettye Bond began a little before hand work,
putting the final touches on the Old Gladney Cemetery and the
hay barn upon a hill in the meadow of the Jackson Creek Gladney
land grant property.
Ed Stevenson had the cemetery mowed and bushawged
the area around the barn, to facilitate parking for the picnic.
After dinner on the 23rd, Gene & Bettye
proceeded to the Old Rock Church Cemetery, using a weed eater
to clean the graves known to them & to make a path to them
from the old Church walls. Vandals had done much destruction to
some of the old markers in a wide strip by the old Church, however
only a couple of the Gladney descendants markers were broken.
For that we can be thankful.
When Julia & Mike Glenn, Julia's Father
& wife, arrived Thursday, they took over the weed eater detail
and did a wonderful job clearing the entire front half of the
Rock Church Cemetery. Julia has quite a few relatives buried there.
Julia & Mike, with the help of Dr.James Gladney, Charles Sidney
Gladney, Gene Bond and equipment borrowed from Robert Malone of
Winnsboro, really "ate up some weeds."
FRIDAY:
Finally the "big day" and every one
began to arrive from all over the USA. Hugs and "Hello Cousin", was
the order of the day. Tim & Jill Johnson had printed out name
tag for everyone. Clifton
Gladney (our treasurer) was kept very busy during the check-in
time. Eleanor
Richardson was busy passing out name tags , before long Polly
Gladney, Eleanor Linn and Margaret Gladney pitched in to help
her.
