The forward speech is heard first and then followed by each reversal being played three times at progressively slower speeds. Finally, the bracketed segment of forward speech is played and immediately follwed by the reversal, all at normal speed. If you minimize Real Player at the bottom of your screen, you can follow the text to verify each reversal as you hear it. Comments and opinions are those of this author and may or may not accurately represent the true thoughts of the speakers. Excerpts include: John Ramsey is offended by the Boulder Police Department hiding a video camera at JonBenet's grave in hopes of taping some incriminating admission by the parents. Patsy Ramsey explains why there are no shower curtains in their new home. While the Ramseys discuss how a killer could familiarize himself with their house, their reversals supply another name and confirm that John Ramsey was not in the room while his daughter was raped. John Ramsey explains why the parents are speaking out now while his reversal blames himself for being distracted with his girlfriend while his daughter was being raped. Patsy Ramsey complains about what she has had to endure. Patsy Ramsey states that their book was written from personal knowledge. Carol McKinley's reversal when reciting the name of the parents' book is quite revealing. Did the parents unconsciously choose this title for their book because of the reversal? Patsy Ramsey appears to concoct a story about JonBenet to gain audience empathy. John Ramsey describes putting JonBenet to bed while his reversal indicates who interrupted the rape of his daughter. Patsy Ramsey describes finding the ransom note. Carol McKinley and John Ramsey talk over each other at the same time while they are both reversing. See if you can hear both sets of reversals at the same time! John Ramsey talks about cooperating with police while one of his reversals indicates the giving of hair and blood samples was done to fake out their pastor. Patsy Ramsey recites the profile of the rapist, according to the experts hired by the Ramseys, while her reversal indicates he was someone who had offered them a deal, possibly for drugs. John Ramsey denies the story about his son Burke's voice being heard in the background on the 911 call while his reversal indicates John is protecting the identity of whoever he spoke to in the background while the call was taking place. John Ramsey asks that the killing of a young child be made a federal offense while his reversal indicates that it was he himself who panicked and faked the crime scene. Patsy Ramsey rambles on about the need to protect children while her reversals talk about evil and describe herself as a fiend with money ready. Patsy Ramsey talks about the common bonds she shares with her husband. Patsy Ramsey talks about finding the killer while her reversals indicate they may be able to locate him through an assistant. Patsy Ramsey talks about the kind statements of strangers being little angels sent from God while her reversal speaks about lust and living forever after having made up the crime. Carol McKinley: "So you're saying you found cameras out there. You knew they were - out there- John Ramsey: "[Oh we found cameras]." They're making our funeral. makefuneral.ra Comment: John Ramsey decries the devious act of the Boulder Police
Department in placing a videocamera at JonBenet's gravesite. His
reversal indicates he understood the police were expecting self-incriminating
statements by the grieving parents.
Patsy Ramsey: "[I don't like shower curtains] [because somebody can hide] back there." Your crotch can't white out // Yeah, how do you get 'em to suck it? crotch.ra Comment: Patsy Ramsey was explaining security measures at their
new home which is still under construction. She was explaining why
the bathroom has no shower curtains. Both Ramsey parents are obsessed
with thoughts about sex.
John Ramsey: "[No harder than any other house]. I mean- So I heard that you didn't murder one. Patsy Ramsey: "[Basements are always in the base]ment"-
John Ramsey: "[basements are always in the basement, bedrooms
are always upstairs and take it from there]."
Comment: The forward speech has the Ramseys explaining that it
would not be that hard for a killer to familiarize himself with their Colorado
house, even though it was very large. John Ramsey's first reversal
is consistent with his not being present in the room when JonBenet was
being raped. Patsy apparently was since her reversals from other
television interviews have her describing the rape and indicate that she
was the one who told John that JonBenet was dead. John apparently
heard from Dave/David that Patsy was not the murderer. (The name
of Dave comes up six sections below as the one who interrupted the rape.)
John and Patsy's reversals overlap on the word "basement." Edmonds
is probably the last name of someone who is acquainted with an associate
of the Ramseys.
John Ramsey: "This is [the first time it's really been appropriate for us to talk out]." I accost the soul for your girlfriend, heavy loot, see my surf it. girlfriend.ra Comment: John Ramsey explains why the Ramseys are speaking out
now, after the grand jury declined to indict anyone. His reversal
is somewhat metaphorical: he blames himself (accost the soul) for
being so involved with his girlfriend that he did not prevent the rape
of his daughter. On the March 17 interview with Barbara Walters,
Patsy has a reversal indicating that John ("Dad") did not see what was
happening since he was having intercourse with a "monster." John
is now experiencing (see my surf it) a great emotional toll (heavy loot)
because of this.
Patsy Ramsey: "I mean it's [hard to take all of this again and again and again]." Nagging and nagging and nagging said the law: "Get this girl." thisgirl.ra Comment: "Girl" refers to Patsy herself. She is annoyed
that the district attorney and police have concentrated on her as the prime
suspect.
Patsy Ramsey: "[You know there are many], many books that have been written about this but [we know. It's our daughter]." I remember that night // Her daugh(t)er drops it one eve thatnight.ra Comment: Patsy vividly remembers what happened that night.
In her second reversal, she does not enunciate the consonant "t" in the
word "daughter" but I think that is the intended word.
Carol McKinley: "One way they're fighting back is with their new book, [The Death Of Innocence]." The Sin Of Defendant booktitle.ra Comment: The way many people pronounce the book's title, it will
reverse as shown above. Was there some unconscious or subconscious
factor at work in choosing the title? In the press and mass media,
the Ramsey parents are viewed as defendants even though they have not been
charged. Although they may not have directly killed their daughter,
was theirs a debauched or sinful lifestyle that facilitated the death of
their daughter?
Patsy Ramsey: "JonBenet would sit there and pretend to have homework. Can you believe that? So she sat there one evening and, and [wrote out her ABC's]. Yeah, huh, huh, huh, [so that was kind of cute]." See, see be her liar // We connect, sly on us slyliar.ra Comment: Patsy displayed a paper with letters written on it.
Although the paper may have been filled out by JonBenet, the accompanying
story has been embellished or contrived to make the audience emotionally
bond with the Ramsey parents.
John Ramsey: "[Carry her upstairs, put her into bed]- Patsy Ramsey: "He put her into the bed." John Ramsey: "I put her on the bed. That is the last image I have of, of, you know, [seeing her when she was alive]." Dave interrupts her rapes by Rick //
The
owl, don't you know where he is?
Comment: The name David has appeared before in reversals from
John Ramsey, specifically when he was on the March 17, 2000 ABC television
show 20/20. Three David reversals from that show included one which
said "David accursed you most of the hour." If Dave/David interrupts
Rick who is in the process of raping JonBenet and then, upon reporting
the facts to John Ramsey, finds John Ramsey engaged in sex with his girlfriend
in another room, Dave may have cursed out John Ramsey for an hour.
"Owl" is a metaphor that has been associated with conscious knowledge.
Its meaning here is unclear although one interpretation could be that John
Ramsey is having some internal dialog about suppressing his knowledge about
what occurred.
Carol McKinley: "Patsy, you found the note first." Patsy Ramsey: "[Well, I just start] you know, started reading it and when I got to the part where it says 'we have your daughter in our possession'." It's yellow. yellownote.ra Comment: Apparently the alleged ransom note was written on yellow
paper.
Carol McKinley: "Why did it take [four months before you finally sat down for a real] interrogation though- [if there was a killer on the loose]." Oh, you were fried, that's the only offer your folks handled // So you will overlook to do with it doubletalk.ra John Ramsey: "[That's not, that's not correct]." Scare was constant, counsel. Comment: Carol McKinley's second reversal and John Ramsey's reversal
overlap each other almost exactly. If you listen carefully, you can
pick out the forward speech of each as they overlap. The reversals
are a bit more difficult but you can differentiate them also. Pay
attention to the higher pitched voice to hear Carol say "So you will overlook
to do with it." Replay the reversals again to pick out John's lower
voice say "Scare was constant, counsel." Heeding the advice from
his attorneys, John Ramsey was afraid to give the detectives a shot at
grilling him during the first four months following JonBenet's death.
John Ramsey: "[We talked to the police on the 26th, on the 27th], [uh-, we gave hair samples, blood samples], everything they asked for before we left [for Atlanta to bury our child]." The vests, you noticed they're not scarce, you noticed that my seal but it's cost you // So we'll pass it up so pastor, fake you out // Why ask 'Are you a rapist?', then they held off vests.ra Comment: Carol McKinley had commented about an army of attorneys
that the Ramseys had retained to defend themselves. The "vests" are
the attorneys (three piece suits worn by high priced attorneys).
Since one of their guests had raped JonBenet, the Ramseys would not incriminate
themselves with hair or blood samples. Providing this evidence apparently
convinced their pastor that the Ramseys were not involved in their daughter's
death. John Ramsey wonders why the police didn't push their investigation
further.
Patsy Ramsey: "[We're looking for a male, believe he's a pedophile. He had access to or] owned a stun gun." Oh it's this guy, that he who had offered us a deal, who I am off nickel drug deal.ra Comment: In her forward speech, Patsy describes the profile of
the killer according to what the Ramseys' hired experts allegedly told
them. In reverse she appears to be talking about a contact that offered
them a deal, possibly a drug supplier. If Patsy was high on a drug
at the time, that may partly explain why she did not intervene to stop
the rape. She no longer uses "nickel" drug. The meaning of
nickel is unclear although it might refer to the pricing. Some drugs
are sold as "nickel bags" or "dime bags" with prices of $5 and $10 respectively.
Patsy's demeanor and affect on television make me suspect she is probably
on prescription drugs now, probably antidepressants.
John Ramsey: "[What we told the police was that] Burke was in bed and was not up." Did so, seal the voice you owe sealvoice.ra Comment: John Ramsey had just been asked about a report that audio
enhancement of the 911 call revealed the Ramseys stating "we're not speaking
to you" to someone in their house. The police speculated that they
were speaking to their son Burke. The Ramseys denied saying that
and said they have never heard the 911 tape. John Ramsey, in reverse
here, is acknowledging that he feels obligated (you owe) to protect the
identity (seal the voice) of whoever he was speaking to. His sense
of obligation may stem from the fact that this person has remained silent
so far.
John Ramsey: "What we'd like to see happen, is we would like to see the murder of a child, and we're defining a child as under the age of thirteen, in the U[nited States be a federal offense]. And a specialized team that [knows about] child murders, knows how murderers of children think [and act, knows who] has done this, who is suspected of doing this, respond with authority." It's my fault, I fakes the incident // I was the one // Who's the one panic? myfault.ra Comment: Taken in reverse order, John Ramsey's reversals are a
clear indication that he staged the crime scene. When he learned
of his daughter's death and realized he could not report the true facts
without bringing shame upon himself and his wife, he panicked. According
to his reversals on the March 17 Barbara Walters interview, his associate
Michelle was the one who thought up the idea of staging a crime scene.
Here John admits that he carried out her suggestion.
John Ramsey: "[Well, what about our children]?" Their little shirt, I bit 'em, oil. Patsy Ramsy: "They're our most precious natural resource.
If we don't have children [who grow up to be the Americans of tomorrow
there will be no], [there will be no country. There will be no] [need
for money. There, you know that]-
Patsy Ramsey: "that's who we are." John Ramsey: "or our oil, boy do we go after thej. [Mess
with our children], eh."
Comment: A fiend is a diabolically wicked person or someone extremely
addicted to a ruinous habit. A fiend with access to lots of money
is a combination for disaster.
Patsy Ramsey: "[We have a com]mon bond here, besides having been married for twenty years this year. [We have lost] our precious child." Mock the value // Solve the hue solve.ra Comment: The Ramseys' actions mock their invocation of traditional
family values. One definition of "hue" is an outcry or clamor from
pursuers. Their task now is to somehow deal with the hue and cry
demanding that they be held accountable for their daughter's death.
Patsy Ramsey: "[And we togeth]er [are not going to rest until we find out]- [Either if this person is still living, we're gonna find 'em]. [Or if this person is deceased, we're gonna know that]." Vaguest unit // It's quiet in the outfield, wasn't it? There was no honor. // Put me off vinegar, evil lives in the surfs at Verthy. // If I find vinegar, see assistant, surfs it fair. vinegar.ra Comment: Even though the Ramseys may not have killed their daughter, there is no honor in a situation where they have to remain silent about what happened to avoid bringing shame upon themselves. Vinegar is a metaphor for something distasteful. Perhaps it is being used here for the rapist. If they can't find him (put me off vinegar) and he is still alive, then evil still exists (lives in the surfs). There is reference in a number of reversals to "associate" or "assistant." The rapist may have been introduced to the Ramseys through one of John Ramsey's business associates or assistants, perhaps his girlfriend. This person may be able to provide leads as to the whereabouts of the rapist. Patsy Ramsey: "God's little angels. [Somewhere two will kinda come up and, tug], so, helps." Lust, with a crime making up, we'll live forever liveforever.ra Comment: John Ramsey had just told a story about a little old
lady supposedly coming up to them and saying "I know who you are.
You hang in there!" Patsy then remarked that such occurrences are
signs from God to cheer them up, i.e. God's little angels. The reversal
here is interesting in that it is more clearly heard than the forward speech.
Patsy apparently thinks that the staged crime scene will protect them from
being prosecuted.
