Tenken smirked to himself as he stepped out on the hot sands. Even though his pst efforts of destruction were futile he would not miss his mark this time. As he walked past the dragonesses several of them had the nerve to hiss at him in warning. Tenken grunted and said, "Hmp, well, if the eggs are going to hatch the hatchlings must be able to survive. We’ll see." That woman Baeris seemed intent on keeping several close eyes on him at once. Tenken smiled cheerfully at them and slunk behind some of the other candidates to watch the wobbling eggs for his chance. The stands were crowded with people from all sorts of worlds and they were making a racket at the wobbling eggs. Soon though the dragonesses began to sing and their song ushered the first hatchlings into the world.
Dragon after dragon found their bond. Tenken clenched his fists each time an egg bre foroketh into a healthy dragonet. The pesky girl that had latched onto him had gotten some odd colored greenish dragon. Good for her. It wouldn't help her idiocy. The other girl that had followed Tenken around impressed too. Another green. Even though she may have a dragon now she was nothing compared to him and would be weak forever. Tenken cracked a cynical grin as he thought of those two with their new creatures. The hatchlings were ugly things and most of them flopped around on the sand making those pitiful noises until they found someone lonely enough to accept them. Well Tenken knew he would get his chance. He just needed to wait... there!
The croud was distracted at the bonding of some cream colored dragon and Tenken's watchers were distracted too. Tenken tapped his foot in the hot sands once then took off towards a nest of eggs. He lashed his sword out and stabbed into one of the soft pulsing orbs. He was raising it back out again to find another egg when a draconic shriek reached his ears. A dragoness had launched herself at Tenken and he raised his sword in preparation for a fight. To his surprise he did not need to fight because something else had taken it up for him.
"The hatchling is flying!" yelled someone from the stands. A dark green shape was indeed flying between Tenken and the angry dragoness. The hatchling was so dark green that it was almost black and it was now hovering over Tenken's head and shrieking.
He is mine! And you will not harm him! sent the green. The hatchling landed and stood tall on two legs over the astonished Tenken.
The other dragon growled fiercly. That filth has damaged my egg! It might die!
That is its problem, replied the green who still stood protectively over Tenken, baring her teeth. Tenken wasn't sure exactly why but he reached forward to touch the dark green's tail.
“You’ve made your point, Birana,” Tenken remarked smugly. This dragon wasn't at all like those flimsy ones that had hatched earlier. Birana was very hungry and the two of them began to head towards the kitchens when Tenken ran into Baeris. Tenken smiled at the older woman and said, "Master healer Baeris, what a surp-” Tenken was cut off as the Master Healer began to speak.
“Tenken, you and your dragon are not welcome here. I will have one of the fringe riders take you back to your home. You have proven to me that your ... skills... are not worth the effort of watching. You’ve put the eggs on these sands in grave danger more than a dozen times while you’ve been here – and this insult of trying to kill them in the first place really shouldn’t have ever gone on this long. Get out of my Den. If you value your life, you’ll leave without a fuss.”
Birana hissed at Baeris. Who cares about them? Birana looked as if she might do more than hissing but Tenken was ahead of her. Tenken reached for his sword again and sliced across at the woman's neck. That should teach her to confront them! To Tenken's surprise Baeris jumped backwards and caused his blade to miss its mark and slash across her shoulder. Baeris' dragon bellowed with rage from behind the woman.
You heard her,” Dulath spoke aloud in the way of Nexus dragons. “I will not hesitate to put your bond to death if you do not leave right now.”
Birana hissed at the green-gold but Dulath reacted just as swifty as her rider. A green-gold tail whacked Birana and sent the green dragonet tumbling to the sands. Tenken jumped forward to attack but was assulted from behind by several of the guards and other riders. Soon he had his arms secured behind his back as the guards removed his sword and several smaller knives. After finishing the guards grabbed him and dragged him rougly off of the sands. Birana stalked after them shouting metally with some words that hatchlings shouldn't know and polite hatchlings shouldn't say.
