BIO
Renita Martin's writing is a "brash, lyrical, and funny, blend of poetic lyricism with great storytelling” (The Boston Herald); onstage she is “ riveting to watch!”
(The BostonGlobe) Renita’s works have most recently appeared in, Boston Theater Marathon Ten Minute Plays (Baker’s Plays), Other Countries, Does Your Mama Know? (Red Bone Press), and Dykes With Baggage(Cleiss Press).
After opening to critical acclaim in Boston, her award-winning play,Lo She Comes, was nominated for Cherry Lane Theatre’s Mentor’s Project, and appeared in the company’s 2001 and 2002 Alternative Reading Series. She returns to the Cherry Lane in October to perform her “dramedy“, Five Bottles in a Six Pack with bass player,Jane Wang.
Renita earned her MFA in playwriting from Brandeis University. She serves as founding director of Rhythm Visions Production Company, Inc., a nonprofit arts education organization.
