Some Recent Exhibitions
October 2003, 20 board exhibition at Lusher Elementary School, New Orleans, reported  in The Picayune Newspaper November 13, 2003.

February 2003, New Jersey State Prison, Trenton New Jersey  appearance reported  in New York Times, Saturday February 2003.

February 2001, gave an exhibition at Louisiana Angola State Prison covered by New Orleans TV cameraman, Steve Alfortisch, the coverage of which won Mr. Alfortisch national honors in his field.
Records
Broke The Guinness Book of World Records record of that time by playing 179 games of chess simultaneously on July 2-3, 1976 at Mid-Island Plaza, Hicksville, New York upping his own personal record of 117 opponents at Lloyd Center, Portland, Oregon in 1973. TV Appearances
Appearance on P.M. Magazine TV program July 22, 1981 doing a blindfold simultaneous exhibition against seven opponents and a chess computer.

Other TV appearances over the years, 20-20, ABC News.
History
Rated Chess Master at age 17 - He learned to play chess when he was age seven.

At the Louisiana State Fair in March of 1968, Acers played 114 opponents simultaneously and won every game!

Called "Muhammad Ali of Chess" by Beacon Journal Newspaper writer, Pat Norman.

He has given chess exhibitions in almost all 50 states of the USA plus five foreign countries, starting in 1968. He wins about 90 percent of the games he plays in simultaneous exhibitions given in malls, colleges, grade schools, chess clubs, jails and prisons.  Alaska State Fair, Lenox Mall in Atlanta, Georgia and Broadway Plaza in New York were visited, all in one week.

Acers, "Man in the Red Beret," appears daily, as he  has for 25 years. at the historic New Orleans French Market Gazebo, 1018 Decatur Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.

"The Chess King of the Streets" by Matthew Teague  about Mr. Acers appeared in Oxford American Magazine of March/April 2000. Also included in the book BEST OF OXFORD AMERICAN (Magazine) By Mark Smirnoff (Editor)

In 1964, Acers matched wits over the chess board in a exhibition match  with future World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer.  Acers has played many other top notch players, i.e. Grandmaster Bent Larsen of Denmark at the 1968 US Open Chess Tournament, six time US Chess Champion, Walter Browne (click here to play over a drawn game with Browne), and several time US Champion Grandmaster, Larry Evans.
