Pileated Woodpecker
Wellesley Island has an overpopulation of white-tailed deer.  Over the past ten years they have literally changed the habitat of the island.  There is a five foot browse line very evident throughout the nature center.  There has not been much new growth of trees and plants at the nature center due to the diets of the deer.  The chances of seeing one or more is very high during your visit to the island.  Drive carefully!
