Who We Are

The Rushford Free Library, a member of the Southern Tier Library System, serves a population of approximately 1200 in the town of Rushford, NY. We have 1620 registered patrons, resulting in approximately 6,100 patron visits per year.  We have a 9 member Board of Trustees that meets once each month.  We have a Library Director and an Assistant Librarian as well as other backup assistants which are called upon as needed.  During 1997, we received a certificate naming us an "Electronic Doorway Library" by the Board of Regents, the New york State Education Department and the New York State Library Association.

What We Have

The sum of our grand total holdings stands at 16,165, including books, audio books, large print books, videos, periodicals and CD-ROMs.  Our technology department consists of two Mac computers and one IBM PC, an HP scanner and HP color inkjet printer for public use.  We also provide  a microfilm reader and copier as a service to our patrons.  We are internet accessible and are part of the (IRIS) (book acquisition program) through the Southern Tier Library Association.  PC classes, as well as internet classes, are available upon request.

What We Do

We sponsor many adult classes, such as basket making, stenciling, nature printing, etc.; a pre-school story hour each week; special holiday programs for children and senior citizens of our community; summer tutoring for children; and participate in the New York State summer reading program.

Children's Room

In May we had a grand opening of  a new children's room which occupies a recently vacated space adjoining our present library.  "Cat in the Hat" was present for this celebration which was enjoyed by both children and adults.

Annual Book Sale

Our annual book sale will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 9:00 A.M. We are looking for donations of used books. Readers Digest Condensed books and old text books are not good sellers. We would appreciate your remembering us with any books you may wish to give to our sale.
