WOODTURNINGS BY J.R. BLASER

Welcome to my woodturning page. I discovered woodturning at an Elderhostel in 1994 at the Arrowmount School of Arts & Crafts. Since that time I have studied under six nationally known woodturners. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners, Kansas City Woodturners and Kansas Woodturners where I sometimes give demonstrations and talks on different techniques of turning. I am primarily interested in turning green wood. I rely mostly on trees from the local area to find the wood I use in my turning. I search for the unusual pieces where I can bring out the beauty of the wood and where the final form is dictated by the features of the wood, be that a natural edge bowl, twice turned bowl, plate, hollow vessel or some other shape. Each piece is truly unique and brings enjoyment and appreciation for an art that pays homage to the beauty of nature.
