Sticky Stuff - Glues and Pastes
School Glue3/4 cup water 2 tablespoon corn syrup 1 teaspoon white vinegar 1/2 cup cornstarch 3/4 cup cold water ItÕs easy to make your own white school glue! Combine the first three ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Meanwhile mix cornstarch and water in a bowl. Finally add the second mixture to the saucepan while stirring. This glue should be left to settle for a day or two before using.
Sticker GooIngredients 1 package unflavored gelatin 1 tablespoon cold water 3 tablespoons boiling water 1/2 teaspoon white corn syrup 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract Make your very own stickers to share with family and friends. To make the sticker paste, dissolve gelatin in cold water. Next add boiling water. Finally add the corn syrup and lemon. Brush the mixture on the back of paper. Lick the stamp to adhere to another piece of paper.
Tasty Paste2 tablespoons vinegar 1/2 cup warm milk 1/4 teaspoon baking soda Actually itÕs really not very tasty but it won't hurt you either. Mix together vinegar and warm milk. Wait until the mixture curdles and then strain the mixture through a coffee filter. Use the liquid to mix with baking soda. This is your paste!
Batik Flour PasteIngredients 1/2 cup white flour 1/2 cup water 2 tsp alum (find in the grocery store near spices or medicines) This is a barrier paint used for batik dying. Batik dying is when the artist draws patterns on a cloth with a barrier paint. When the cloth is soaked in dye, the areas that have been painted will remain white. To make this barrier pain, start with a bowl of water and slowly add the flour and alum. Mix well until smooth.
