Question: Why is it so important to socialize?
Answer: Because if you do NOT socialize, then picture this...
Think about the things from the dinasaur days, no cars, no people, no buildings, or all the noises you'd hear in the cities. Then imagine taking a dinasaur from then, and throw them into the middle of all of this -- what do you think will happen, or what will they think? I'll tell you -- they'd be VERY FRIGHTENED!!! Now, because dinaraurs don't understand human language, then how are you going to be able to tell us what's going on, and that everything is okay and not to be afraid? You can't tell them, you would've had to have taken the time to raise them and show them while they're growing up, that although all these things are scary, they won't hurt them. So if, after they grow up and something scares them, they could bite, and then who would be to blame? If you don't do your job, don't expect your dog to.
And when you DID raise them by taking them out in this big scary world to show them around, you'd want to take it slow -- and reassure them when they DID get scared, to let them know it's okay...
Question: Why should I train my dog, (all I want is for them to just behave & do what I tell them to do)?
Answer: You just answered your own question. If you want them to just behave and do what they're told, you'd have to do at least SOME sort of training in order for them to be able to understand what you EXPECT of them.
Just a little something to think about: Have you ever stopped to think about it? How is it,
dogs can understand our language, but yet, WE can't understand THEM! What does that tell you? They're actually smarter than us? The answer is yes, in some ways. But that doesn't mean that WE can't figure out what they're trying to tell US.
If you ever really paid attention to our dogs when they bark, you'd notice that they have different types of barks for different reasons. Pay more attention to when they bark, then YOU can figure out what they're trying to tell you. If they have a higher pitched bark that lingers slightly, then a series of barks to follow, this tells you that they DEFINITELY heard someone or something that is VERY close by or maybe even in your yard. But a higher pitched bark, with following barks that they pause, then bark, this tells you that they're pretty sure they heard something close by, but they're not really sure.
