To change the future...
Christianity does not focus too much on prophecy, in my unhumble opinion. This is because forgiveness--which is the most important element of the religion--involves accepting everything the way it is, imperfections included. So a Christian must also accept the future the way it is, without worrying about it or giving much thought to it and without trying to predict it.
Hence, Jesus said "have no thought for the morrow."
However, there is a balance to that, meaning that prophecy is not completely excluded from the New Testament or the New BALANCE as I like to call it.
Indeed, accurate prophecy can reinforce the notion that the future is in God's control which prevents us from worrying about it and makes it easier to accept. And it gives credence to accepting "bad" events such as the fall of the WTC/Babylon when we read of this event in the book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament/Balance.
We know then that God wanted this apparently tragic event to take place and therefore we know that it will serve God's purpose in the long run which means that it will serve a good purpose because we trust God.
The whole point of being a Christian is to to trust God.
Indeed, God does have our best interest at heart because--as the Bible tells us--God is LOVE.
A Christian, in my unhumble opinion, is not supposed to try TOO hard to change the future.
Instead of trying to change the world, one perhaps should just do what one enjoys doing which comes naturally, naturally being the way God made you, and in that way God, not you, will actually change and shape the world and the future.
Right now George W. Bush is trying way too hard to change the world, to "rid the world of evil...to end terrorism in the world."
In other words, Bush is trying to be God. He does not accept the way God created the world and therefore is trying to re-create the world in the image of what Bush thinks is the right image, and he thinks the right image is his image.
Such an attitude is not just un-Christian, it is counter-productive.
When people try to control TOO much they tend to mess things up worse than they already are, and they tend to actually lose control.
Hence, trying to end terrorism creates more terrorism.
People who turn the other cheek are the ones who just accept things and let God take care of their enemies.
People who LOVE their enemies have completely surrendered their control to God's will. And the Bible says that such people cause "hot coals to fall on the heads of their enemies."
So the way to stop terrorism is to LOVE and forgive your enemies.
To the non-Christian and phoney Christians such a meek attitude seems foolish.
But ask yourself this; who lives longer, violent or non-violent people?
Answer: Those who live by the sword, die by the sword and the meek will inherit the earth.
But we must accept the unwillingness of Bush to see the truth. For Bush must fulfill prophecy so that we learn that the Christian way to rule the world is by not trying to rule it.
