The Shannons
Above: In the 1890s, John Anderson Shannon (1875-1925) worked for E. F. Dalbey & Son who were dealers in household furniture, stoves, carpets and other goods for the home. The business was located at 47 and 49 N. Eighth Street in Richmond, Indiana. John Anderson is in the photo standing beside the horse. He was born in 1875 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His sister Blanche M. Shannon was born in Kentucky. Their mother Amelia Shannon died soon after John was born and the two children were raised in Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana by their grandmother Wilhelmina Nieske Droste.

However, it was discovered that he had tuberculosis, and he had to quit. This photograph was taken about 1902. John then became very ill with T.B. and was unable to work. He died of the disease in 1925.
Above:Hannah Alpharetta Graham Shannon (1876-1922) with her husband, John Anderson Shannon, about 1905. They were the parents of Dorothy (1901-1961) and Elmer Shannon (born 1897). The family lived in the area now called "old Richmond" which is located close to the Wayne County, Indiana Courthouse in Richmond.
Above: John Anderson and Hannah Alpharetta Graham Shannon's children, Dorothy Edna May (1901-1961) and Elmer with their pet goats. Dorothy Shannon said that their family always had pet goats and a goat cart. When the animals died they would bury them on the Whitewater river bank. Once Elmer and Nellie ran away in their goat cart and they were caught going north on cart road.
