Materials Required
1 ball red or pink #10 thread of your choice
Small amount #10 green thread
Small amount #10 white thread
Size 7 crochet hook
Example is crocheted with vintage cotton thread from the early
1900's with a size 10 hook.
NOTE: This pattern is also fine worked in size 20 thread with
a #10 hook
Note:
This example shown in the photograph was made with vintage cotton
thread size 10 with a size 7 steel hook. This pattern will adapt
well to virtually any typical hook/thread combination (i.e. size
20 thread with a #10 hook).
Special Stitches
This doily uses what I call the "prong stitch." I have
found this stitch in a couple of obscure old patterns called by
different names, but I have never seen an authority on the name
of this stitch. SO that being said, I will refer to it in this
pattern as "prong stitch" with my apologies to anyone
who has called it anything else in the past! To work the prong
stitch, when you SC, rather than going under the top two loops
as usual, you put your hook into the "V" or the"prongs"
of the stitch. This creates a raised pattern on the right side
of the work..
