This is a picture of a postcard from the early 1900s. The Trolley Car is on Ridge Ave going towards Manayunk. The road above the trolley is East River Drive. The body of water at the top center is Gustine Lake. This is where the Recreation Center is now located. The road on the left is Wissahickon Drive. As you can see at one time all three roads connected. The building on the left side is Barnett's. It was a restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor.

This postcard shows East River Drive and the Lincoln Monument in 1926. If you look just to the right of the Lincoln Monument you will see what looks like a Guard Shack. If you look behind the shack you will notice that the Azalea Garden has not been planted yet. Also in the far background you will see the buildings of the old Water Works

Spring Garden Water Works

The Spring Garden Water Works was located on the East River Drive between the Rock Tunnel and the Girard Ave Bridge. It stood on the site were the Glendining Rock Garden is now located.
