The Park K-9 Unit was started in 1960 with 8 members. The original members were all Mounted. The original concept was to have a dog walk along side the Mounted Officer. Due to legal liabilities it was determined that the dog had to be kept on a leash making it impractical for patrol purposes, thus the K-9 Unit was born.
