I would like to include the story of Bjorn, the day he saved his master from certain danger.
Dear Sarah, when we were lucky enough to have you pick our Black Lab "Bjorn" for us, little did I realize he would protect me at only twenty months of age. You told us that labs are the kindest of just about all breeds and we have found this more than true. You also related that labs get between their loved ones and a source of danger.
A couple of weeks ago, I was walking a friend of ours home after having her to diner at our apartment. We stopped at a corner and were in conversation when three men appeared from the street behind us. I noticed that Bjorn who usually will either sit or lay down near me was this time sitting directly on my right foot watching these men, who were keeping their distance, because of this big black 82 pound kissing machine. They passed us and then came back and passed us again, but would not
approach us. A couple of minutes later I heard from about thirty feet, across the street, "down on the ground face down." The three men were pounced at with guns drawn, by a male and a female plain clothes police couple, posing as a NY taxi cab driver and passenger. They were hand cuffed and taken into custody.
I inquired of an officer in one of the five police cars that arrived as to what these men had done. The officer related that they had mugged and robbed a gray haired man that resembled me a block away. It was obvious, Bjorn sensed danger and came close to protect me. I am glad that he did not have to be tested further, but I feel that the bond between us may have brought out an even stronger protective response if he felt it necessary. What a wonderful gift to our family this beautiful animal represents. Your concern and protection of the breed is our good fortune. Christina and Sandy Shull
