ABOUT THE DNA PROJECT
The SLAUGHTER Surname DNA Project was established to create a growing databank of DNA profiles of male Slaughter descendants to aid in genealogical research. DNA analysis can assist in supporting or refuting the premise that two or more participants descend from a common ancestor.
The success of our Project will depend on the number of participants who join our testing group, as well as the documentation of the research connected with each line reqarding dates and locations of birth, death, marriage, etc.
For technical information please visit DNA 101 http://blairgenealogy.com/dna/dna101.html
TESTING LAB:
Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), affiliated with Dr. Michael Hammer and the University of Arizona, will be testing the Y-chromosome for genetic matches between males. Results are placed in FTDNA's Y-DNA database and when 2 people show the same identical results, the lab will inform both parties (provided both signed the FTDNA Release Form). Project participants will receive a certificate and report from the lab generally describing Y-DNA sequencing and the meaning of the probability between matches.
Please visit the FTDNA website for more information and an explanation of Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA). http://www.familytreedna.com/

HOW TO JOIN THE SLAUGHTER DNA PROJECT
The lab tests the y-chromosome which is passed down through an unbroken male lineage (father to son to son, etc.), so you must be a male with the Slaughter surname to participate. In order for a female to determine her paternal ancestry, she must use the y-chromosome of a male on her father's side - her brother, father, father's brother, grandfather, etc.
The following Y-chromosome DNA tests are available. Please see the FTDNA website for availability of other types of DNA testing.
Y-DNA12 (12 marker test for $99) Y-DNA25 (25 marker test for $169) Y-DNA37 (37 marker test for $229)
The 12 marker test is best at ruling out relatedness with another participant. The 25 marker test is more refined. And FTDNA is now offering the 37 marker test. Whichever you choose now can always be upgraded later for an additional fee as shown below:
Y-DNA12to25 for $90 Y-DNA12to37 for $149 Y-DNA25to37 for $59
DNA collection kits, which involve a painless swabbing of inside the cheek, will be sent to participants directly from the lab. Your payment is remitted to the lab with the completed kit.

DISCLAIMER, CONDITIONS AND AGREEMENT
The Slaughter Surname DNA Project organizers have no commercial affiliation with any profit making organization and receive no compensation for services or expenses involved with the project. At present, this webpage is maintained for posting DNA results and pedigrees of participants who choose to make their information available.
Although the Slaughter Project has arranged for discounts at FTDNA, that by no means suggests a business partnership or other relationship between the Project and the Laboratory. All funds are payable only and directly to the Laboratory. The Slaughter Project will not be the recipient nor steward of any DNA samples and has no responsibility for their care, handling or return to participant, nor duty to act on behalf of Participant in mediation of any dispute between the Participant and the Laboratory.
While a match between two participants may indicate that they share a common male ancestor, it will not identify the specific ancestor and there is no guarantee that every participant will match another participant.
By participation in the project, the participant agrees to all conditions of the Project.
