A note from Steve....
Since July 2002 there has been something new in our lives....theatre. We have joined the Pioneer Players family. After working as Backstage Manager on "The Fantasticks" and being the Production Manager for "The Tiger" I got the chance to try my hand at acting. I worked with a wonderful, loving cast and played a few small parts in the play "Little Shop of Horrors". It was like nothing I had done before. I got lots of love (and two awards) for my hard work.

Then I was lucky enough to get a call back for the play "Annie" (I actually got the call back while standing on the strip in Las Vegas). Again I was blessed to work with incredible people (like the Chris & Tabby Skanes, Kyle, Stevie, Kerry, Lacey...the list is as long as your arm). I helped in the creation of the sets, played five different characters, sang in four songs and even danced (a little). It was quite a stretch for me.

Most recently I was the Assistant Director for "The Sound of Music" (As well as one of its villians). We set some new marks for Pioneer Players with regards to sets, ticket sales, Thursday night attendance and new rules from the board. I got the chance to work once more with my very good friend, Kyle Morillo (Quite simply one of the most creative minds on the planet).

Currently Kyle and I are working on "Best Christmas Pageant Ever", opening in Dec. 2004 at the Templeton Legion Hall. The cast is huge, but are an extremely talented bunch.

Tabby, who has moved on to PCPA, will be in the uncoming production of Annie. Break a leg!!

Update 2006 - I have been involved in a great number of productions...including playing Munkostrap in CATS.

I don't know how long I can keep up the pace required to be a "useful cog in the theatre machine"...but I'm sure gonna try.

2005 Update - Currently on the Pioneer Players Board of Directors (Treasurer). Will be playing the part of Maurice in the November 2005 "Beauty and the Beast". Tabby Skanes will be playing the part of Belle.

We all live in Paso Robles, Ca. ,in a tiny house that's saves us lots of money we are piling up towards a down on a house. I write childrens stories, fix antiques and musical instruments, watch sumo wrestling, collect pipes and broker sales on the internet (eBay). Lisa collects "Winnie the Pooh", toils in the garden and makes pretty things. The dogs...well they do what dogs do best sleep, eat and bark.

Maddex Undersea Research -"Preservation Through Education" @1988

After celebrating it's eleventh year in March of 1999, Maddex Undersea Research officially closed it's doors. During those eleven years more than (7000)seven thousand students, of all ages, went through our educational programs.

Also during those eleven years we managed to study, record, rescue and census many of California's most spectacular marine creatures. Sharks, Elephant Seals, Dolphins, Sea Lions and Harbor Seals all managed to find there way into our lives.

I'd like to take a moment to thank some of the people that made it all possible.

Patrick Maddex, Lisa Maddex, Bob Gladden, Doug George, Naida Groff, Melanee Ziegler, Horst Felbeck, Mindy Wilkinson, Brent Roberts, Ricardo Caivano, Kurt Payne, Susan Patton, Casey Pearce, Ruth Ann Angus, Arby Kitzman, Dennis Williams and many, many more.

Thank you all...

Look for the fruits of all that labor in my childrens books (not yet published).

"How Children See The Sea"
"Deep Dive on the Delta"
"Big Sandy Beach"

Currently "Grunion Stew" and "Pancho, Camilla and Star" are in illustration.....Again. Keep your fingers crossed.

Our Interests Online

Take a moment to share some of the odd places we enjoy online. Visit sites like Sumo Wrestling and see who is winning the current basho; Antique Auctions on eBay for fun stuff; Pipe collecting, the North American Society of Pipe Collectors (I'm member No. 702) is full of nice people.

Have Fun!
