Stitch Pattern #1:

Row 2: Purl around
Stitch Pattern#2:
Row 1: K3, YO, K3, SSK, K2tog, K3, YO, K3; around
Row 2: Knit around
Begin Socks:
NOTE: The first needle you begin knitting with in pattern will be referred to Needle 1 and is the back of the sock. Needle 2 is the front of the sock.
Cast on 32 stitches and divide evenly between both needles. (16sts per needle) Join.
Work in Stitch Pattern Number one for a total of 6 rounds. Cuff.
Now change to Stitch Pattern Number two and work 12 rounds.
Heel Flap:
Working only with needle one, these stitches are worked back and forth in rows.
Row 1: Sl 1, *K1, Sl 1, repeat from * across row ending with K1. Turn
Row 2: Sl 1, P across row. Turn.
Repeat these two rows for 12 rows. Turn.
Turn Heel:
Row 1: Sl 1, K8, K2tog, K1, turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, P4, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, K5, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, P6, P2tog, P1, turn
Row 5: Sl 1, K7, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 6: Sl 1, P8, P2tog, P1, turn
Slip first stitch, knit across remaining 10 stitches.
Gusset:
Rnd 1: With needle one, pick up one stitch in every slip stitch along side of heel flap. (Six stitches.) Pick up one stitch in space between Needle one and needle two to prevent a hole from forming. Total of 7 stitches picked up. Drop needle 1.
Needle 2: Knit across stitches in Pattern Number 2, Row 1. Drop needle 2.
With Needle 1, pick up one stitch between needle 2 and heel flap to prevent hole and 6 stitches along opposite side of heel flap in remaining sl sts until you reach the beginning.
Total stitches on both needles equals 41 sts. 25 on needle number 1 and 16 on needle number 2.
Rnd 2:
Needle 1: Place marker for beginning of round. Knit across remaining stitches of needle 1 until the last two stitches, K2tog.
Needle 2: Knit row 2 of Stitch Pattern 2.
Needle 1: K2 tog, knit to marker.
Rnd3:
Needle 1: Knit
Needle 2: Knit row 1 of Stitch Pattern 2.
Needle 1: Knit to marker.
Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 until 17 sts remain on Needle one. (You also just should have worked Row 1 of Stitch Pattern 2 as well.
Last Round of Gusset:
Needle one: Remove marker. Knit 4 sts, K2tog, knit to end of needle.
Needle 2: Knit Stitch Pattern 2 across stitches.
You should now have a total of 32 sts on your needles. From here on out you will knit all stitches on Needle Number 1 and work in the Stitch Pattern 2 sequence across Needle Number 2 as established, starting with Row 1 of the pattern.
Foot: Knit in sequence established for a total of 18 rounds, ending with Rnd 2 of Stitch Pattern #2.
Shape Toe: I knit a “Star Toe” as follows.
Rnd 1: (K6, K2tog) Repeat 4 times Total = 14sts each needle
Rnd 2 and ALL even rows: Knit
Rnd 3: (K5, K2tog) Repeat 4 times Total = 12 sts each needle
Rnd 5: (K4, K2tog) Repeat 4 times. Total = 10 sts each needle
Rnd 7: (K3, K2tog) Repeat 4 times. Total = 8 sts each needle
Rnd 9: (K2, K2tog) Repeat 4 times. Total = 6 sts each needle.
Rnd 11: (K1, K2tog) Repeat 4 times. Total = 4 sts each needle. End. Cut about 8-12 inch length of yarn and weave through the center of each remaining stitch on the needles. Pull up tight and weave in loose end. Make second sock.
NOTE: A larger sock can be made simply by adding 1 or more stitches at the end of each needle for the cast on, adjusting the first knit stitches accordingly at the beginning and end of each stitch pattern in order to keep the design element in the center of the leg.
I created this pattern to share with all my knitting friends around the world and to match the adult version of the pattern I found on the Internet.
