Samantha Fixation for circulars
Samantha's Fixation Socks
"Tweaked" by Stephanie / TX and posted with permission by original designer Chris Carroll (click here for original pattern)
Materials:

US size 3 circular needles or whatever size needles to obtain guage
2 skeins fixation sock yarn

Gauge:  14sts (k2, p2) and 4 pattern repeats = 2”

Pattern:
Cast on 48 stitches.  Divide evenly on two circulars. Join ends.

In these instructions, when you start to make the heel flap, the needles will be designated as Needle one and Needle two. If no specific needle is designated, the design is worked over both needles.
Begin Sock:K2, P2 for 10 rows

Then begin pattern
Row 1 *K1, YO, K1, p2* repeat from * to* until end
Row 2 *K3, P2* Repeat from * to * until end
Row 3 *Sl1, K2, PSSO over both K2 stitches, P2* repeat from * to* until end
Row 4 *K2, P2* Repeat from * to * until end
Repeat pattern rows until desired length to top of heel.  End with row 4
Fixation doesn't pull in well when ribbed so you need to decrease here to make the heel fit snugly against the foot. Turn.

Begin Heel Flap: (You will be working flap only on Needle one)
(First Row 1: SL1,YO, K1, *P2tog, K1, YO, K1* (repeat from * to * to end )
Row 1: (Use for remainder of heel flap) *SL1, YO, K1, *P1, K1, YO, K1* (repeat from * to * to end )
Row 2: SL1, *P3, K1*  (repeat from * to * to end)
Row 3: *SL1, K2, PSSO over both K2 sts, P1* (repeat from * to * to end )
Row 4: SL1, *P2, K1*  (repeat from * to * to end)
Continue until heel flap is desired length. End with this version of Row 4: sl1, * P2, Knit in front and back of next st (increase made) * repeat across.  You will have 24 stitches once again when finished with this row.
Turn Heel:
Row 1:  Sl 1, K15 sts, K2 tog, K1 turn
Row 2:  Sl 1, P9 sts, P2 tog, P1, turn
Row 3:  Sl 1, K10, K2 tog, K1, turn
Row 4:  Sl 1, P11, P2 tog, P1, turn

Repeat rows 3 and 4, increasing 1 additional K or P stitch after the Sl 1 until all side stitches are consumed.  End with a purl row.

Picking up Gusset stitches:
Knit across needle one, Pick up 17 gusset stitches. (This would be for a 3” heel flap, for a shorter heel flap, 2 1/2", the average, you would only pick up 15 gusset stitches.)
Keeping Needle 2 stitches in pattern continue work across stitches
Needle one: pick up 17 gusset stitches, place marker. (Marks beginning and end of round. Looks a bit strange but after the next round all the stitches will be in proper placement on the needles.)
Keeping to pattern on Needle two, work one round evenly around both needles from marker and back to the marker. (You have just worked Row 2 of pattern stitches across Needle two on this round.)
Again, keeping in pattern on Needle two. On every odd numbered row of pattern work decreases in gusset on needle one like this:

Needle one: Knit to last three stitches on needle, K2tog, K1
Needle two: Work in pattern across
Needle one: K1, Sl1, K1, PSSO, knit to marker (this ends the row)
(Repeat this sequence on every ODD numbered row. Even numbered rows work evenly around sock.)
Repeat this sequence of decreasing on the odd rows and working evenly on the even rows until you are back to 24 sts on each needle.
Work evenly across both needles, keeping to pattern on needle two until 1 ½” from end of big toe, or desired length.

Work your preferred Toe shape or you may use my version of a round toe as follows:

Rnd 1:
Needle 1:  K1, SSK, knit until the last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1
Needle 2:  K1, SSK, knit until the last 3 stitches, k2 tog, k1.
(These two rows will now be referred to as a “Decrease Row”.)

Rnd 2-4:   Knit around

Rnd 5: Decrease Row

Rnd 6-8: Knit around

Rnd 9: Decrease Row

Rnd 10 & 11: Knit around

Rnd 12: Decrease Row

Rnd 13 & 14: Knit around

Rnd 15: Decrease Row

Rnd 16: Knit around

Repeat rounds 15 and 16 one more time or until 20 sts are left.  Graft toe closed.
