We traveled to Cottonwood for the Eagle Classic Relays and once again we did very well as a program. The boys finished 5th and the girls finished 2nd. All running events are relays with 4 person teams and the field events have three person teams. Medals are awarded to the top three teams and points are scored to the top six.

We are still feeling the effects of being a young varsity boy's team, but we are seeing continued improvements. The DMR team took 10 seconds off their time from the Vallejo Relays, our 4x400 team turned in their best time of the year and our throwers had three PR's led by Patrick Sammons toss of 141' 08 to have the second best throw of the day in the discus. We had two athletes Nathanael Hargitt and Matt Fraiser try the triple jump for the first time in competition to capture 2nd place with teammate first year junior Ryan Dieckman who also had a PR in the long jump with a mark of 19'4". While Donny Albini coming back from injury had the best long jump of the day with a mark of 20' 10", and when you added Nathanael's mark the boys walked away with 1st place medals. The same three boys, Donny, Ryan and Nathanael won first place in the high jump.

The girls put together another outstanding team effort. As in any track meet you have to be able to adjust to injuries and missing athletes. We had a last minute cancellation when Jordan Albertson did not make the bus and Emma McGee turned her ankle in the pole vault. Tori Dwyer will get the iron women of the meet award as she jumped in and ran in the 4x800 for the first time and a 400 in the DMR for the first time. When Emma got hurt Tori was there to fill in for her in the 4x400 and helped her teammates run the fastest time in the Redwood Empire this year, 4:19.81. Christina Dwyer ran a personal best split in the 4x400 with a 61.1, she also continues to lead the Redwood Empire in the long jump with a season best jump of 16' 9". Ellen Everidge inspired her triple jump teammates by jumping a personal best 32' 10 ¾" before running off to run a 400m in the sprint medley, she briefly held the top mark in the Redwood Empire, until Christina jumped 33' 6 ½", also a PR. Not to be outdone Anna Dwyer ended the day with a PR of 34' ¼". The combined score for the triple jump team is 100' 3" a new meet record and after doing a little research I found that this trio of triple jumpers also now holds the Redwood Empire team record for the girls triple jump beating the mark of 96' 1 held by Upper Lake from 1992. Outstanding!!
