Our first offering - Above Our Heads: The Making of a Morehouse Man
Written by Spencer C. Gibbs, a Morehouse alumnus of the Class of '69, Above OurHeads: The Making of a Morehouse Man chronicles the four years spent while a student at this venerable institution. Says Mr. Gibbs, "this book was written to answer the question what is it about this school that has produced this nation's finest leaders. It is an insider's attempt at explaining the fabled 'Morehouse Mystique.'" With such relatively meager resources throughout its 130-plus years of history, the College has, in spite of daunting odds, become a world-class provider of AfricanAmerican leadership.
The reader will witness, through letters written to his parents during the four years of his matriculation which provide a basis for the text, how young men were shaped by the cloistered culture of Morehouse. A foreword has been written by the highly-respected pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church of New York City, The Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, a member of the Morehouse Class of '71.
