~~REVIEWS~~
"---Filegar’s ability to immerse the reader into the atmosphere –
evoking every sense while he does so, is a sensory treat. Smelling
the campfires, the stench of blood and gunpowder – literally
sensing the ground rumble beneath the traps of thousands of
marching feet . . ." Denise M Clark of Denises Pieces Book Reviews

"Gus Filegar puts the reader into the forefront of the battle . . .the reader is thrust into the fray of combat." Steven Harrell; Author of 'The Unionist'
"A well-balanced combination of action-romance and historical accuracy make this novel about Company H of the 20th Maine exciting material. . . ."
Ron and Pat H. of The 20th Maine Store, Freeport Maine

About the author
Born and raised in Northwestern Pa, he now resides in Duncansville, Pa, located in the south central part of the state. Over the past 15 years, Gus has developed a strong interest in one of our Nation's most trying times. He is in agreement with many other historians and refers to this time as '...the rebirth of our Nation'. It is this interest, mainly of the soldier away from home, that led him to write this moving novel.
He, his wife and three children enjoy participating in living histories in their area, which include schools and talking to various youth groups such as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Currently, they are members of the Twentieth Maine Regiment, Co. E and also participate with the 46th Pennsylvania Regiment ,also known as The Logan Guard, a regimental band.
You can find them at popular Civil War reenactments such as Gettysburg, the first weekend in July, Del Grosso Park in Tipton Pa, the last weekend in September, and Cedar Creek, outside of Middletown Va., usually the second weekend of October, to name a few. Come and learn the life of a soldier.

About the novel
Nathan married his sweetheart Sarah July 27th, 1862. The following day, he mustered in as the orderly sergeant of the Masardis Maine militia, to help raise citizen soldiers for the Union cause in answer to President Lincoln's call for 300,000 volunteers to serve, and help preserve the Union. By the first of August, they are off to the training camps. They leave Camp Mason, outside of Bangor, the last of August. Untrained and green, they witness the carnage at Antietam mid September, then are off to fight their first battle at Sheperdstown.
December will find Nathan and Company H at Fredericksburg, where they fight in a cold Hell, then in the disease ridden camps in January and beyond. He and the men of the Twentieth then face the enemy at Gettysburg, on a hot and deadly afternoon in July of 1863.
Bravery, courage, honor, and valor in the Twentieth Maine Regiment . . . through a soldiers eyes. Some thought it would be an adventure . . . most found it a living nightmare.
Will Nathan be the same man that left the previous August? How will Sarah cope, only having but a few days with her new husband? The loss of friends and close ones by his side on the battlefield could bring the hardest man to his knees. Will Nathan raise his rifle to his cousin on the field of battle?
