A Brief History of our Neighborhood
Originally a Centex-Crosland neighborhood, the Stonewyck Homeowners Association (SHA) was turned over to residents in 1996. We are a proud "restricted" neighborhood, with a Board of Directors committed to maintaining the value of Stonewyck and improving our neighborhood whenever possible. One of the finest achievements for the SHA board was when the board was able to petition the Kannapolis City Council to approve a reduction in the residential speed limit in Stonewyck from 35 mph to 25 mph. This was the first such action ever taken by the city council, and has been a model for other neighborhoods to use when wanting a similar reduction !!!

The CCR and Board of Directors
Stonewyck is guided by a neighborhood association and a set of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCR) to help maintain the integrity and value of the 111 homes in Stonewyck. We have a professionally maintained front entrance & in 1999, a sprinkler system was installed by Wetlands Irrigation to help maintain the health & beauty of the grass & foliage at the front.
The SHA has a 5 member Board of Directors to help oversee any questions or problems that might arise, as well as to manage the finances for Stonewyck (See Annual Dues below). The board sends out a quarterly newsletter, and has established a semi-annual yard sale for the residents of Stonewyck, which has been a resounding success !!! E-Mail the board with questions. , or contact us by USPS: Stonewyck H.O.A., P.O. Box 315, Kannapolis, NC, 28082-0315. Our management company's e-mail is John@hollowaymgmt.com

Annual Dues
The SHA collects annual dues for the maintenance of the front entrance, as well as for taxes, insurance, and maintenance of approximately 19 acres of "common area". For the year 2008, this assessment is $99, which is less expensive than many other similar neighborhoods. For the 2009 assessments, notices will be sent out by Holloway Management, and are due by February 15.

Local History
Kannapolis is a town with a rich heritage in textiles. Originally founded in the 1800's, Cannon Mills employed 25,000 people during it's heyday in the 60's, and at one point captured half the nation's towel business. After Charles Cannon died in 1971, the company went through a series of corporate buyouts, once including ownership by David Murdock, Chairman of Dole Food Company. In 1997, the company was sold for a 4th time to Pillowtex Corp. After several years of financial struggles, Pillowtex closed the doors on the mill for good July 31, 2003, declaring chapter 11 bankruptcy. Having reentered the picture, David Murdock continues to oversee construction of the NC Research Campus for Kannapolis, and is committing Billions of dollars in support. Points of Interest
Kannapolis features Cannon Village, a Williamsburg-style shopping area containing 450,000 sq.ft. of specialty shops & outlet stores. Just to the south is Concord, emerging as one of the fastest growing areas in the piedmont. The home of Carolina Mall & Concord Mills Mall, there are also plenty of stores that give that "hometown" feel just off the beaten path.
Less than a mile from Stonewyck, on Orphanage Road, the Church of God Children's Home has donated a portion of the property left to it by the Cannon's for a park, now open but still under construction. Walking trails and a children's play area are complete, with tennis courts and multi-purpose fields just a part of what is planned for this beautiful wooded setting.Work continues on the sidewalk the city is planning for Oakwood Avenue, to stretch all the way to Rogers Lake Rd.
Sports are also an integral part of Cabarrus county. For fans of racing, Lowes Motor Speedway and Concord Speedway offer great auto racing, whether you prefer high-speed NASCAR action, or more localized short track competition. The Kannapolis Intimidators , named for 1/3 owner, the late Dale Earnhardt, are the Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and offer exciting Minor League Baseball action.
