TO MY WONDERFUL MOM Eileen Sadler Rouw May 26, 1922-November 13, 1996 This is my special Mother's Day gift to you mom. No fancy poems or rhymes, just some flowers, and some photos that I know you would enjoy. I love you and miss you so much! You had a very rough beginning in this life. At the age of two, your father died, and your mother abandoned you soon after. You were put in an orphanage with your sister, and separated from your brothers. You both were adopted into wonderful families, but because of your sister's death in a car accident at age 18, you never saw her again. This is the postcard pic of you and your dad when you were a teen. Grandpa was the first Town Crier of Pella (IA) tulip time. You were so lucky to be adopted by the Sadlers. You loved your mom and dad so much. Your dad was a musician, and taught you to play the piano. You became an awesome pianist and gave piano lessons for 22 years. Heck, you even started teaching me when I was 6 years old, but I could never even come close to playing like you! You married my dad, Dick J. Rouw, on August 31, 1941, in Bethany, MO. An elopement, no less! Soon after he got drafted, and you followed him around the country. You worked in canning plants and did whatever you had to do to survive. Then, he was sent overseas because of the war. You were separated for two long years. It was so hard on both of us when we lost dad in November of 1975. We loved him so much! Dad returned home from the war in December, 1945, and I believe the two of you started the baby boomer generation! My oldest brother was born in September of 1946, my other brother in June of 1948, and I, in February of 1951. Gosh mom!!!! You sure had your hands full!! Through thick and thin, mom, you were there. The most crucial time of course, was when I had major surgery when I was 16. You walked to the hospital and stayed by my side, day and night. You also were there when I married the first time, in 1970. And, when that marriage fell apart------you were still there for me! This is how I love to remember you. The cruise we went on in 1988 was so awesome!! You were still well then, and despite all the rocking and rolling that ship did----you took it like a trooper!!!! Mom, I didn't mean to leave out the wonderful man you married in 1982. I just don't have a good pic of him, since big brother took most of them home. We loved Harold too, and lost him in November, 1986. Just so you know mom, that I love you and miss you every day!! I really enjoyed making this small tribute to you, it has somehow made me feel better. Although, I can just hear you saying "What is a World Wide Web?" Happy Mother's Day mom!!
