SUSAN...

Name and Location: Susan, New York City, 55

Hobbies and Interests: Archaeology, Backgammon, Gambling, Anything to do with the Middle East (history, culture, food, music), world traveler, good conversation with interesting people.

Shalom, Shalomand welcome to my webpage.

Once someone said about me, "Susan - plays with the world" and I do believe that aptly describes me. I am an international person. I travel a lot and have friends around the globe. My favorite area of the world is the Eastern Mediterranean....Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. I feel as much at home there as I do in New York City, where I live.

I am divorced, have one son, 22, presently at the University of Wisconsin in Madison (my hometown and alma mater too). I have a home in Manhattan and Jerusalem. I love yachting in the Aegean, dancing till dawn at a waterfront taverna and really letting my hair down.

I am senior vice president of an international tour operator specializing in educational and cultural tours. I love my career and have been privileged to meet so many wonderful people including Heads of State, historians, curators, Egyptologists, artists, musicians and some of the leading academicians of our world today.

My pet peeves are the media and any type of fundamentalist. I don't believe people should pay attention to the media because it places everything out of context and when focusing on something small it becomes paramount.

Fundamentalists are the same no matter what religious affiliation they have. They are small minded people who do not dare think for themselves. They quote scriptures and other sayings to prove their point and when challenged they always revert back to "I'll pray for you."

At the same time I tremendously dislike the Op status accorded on irc. I believe it shows how when little people get a bit of power they get out of control. (Not all ops, by far...but many). To me it is a perfect case in seeing how a dictator is born and how the citizens accept it.

I am a student of the Holocaust....man's greatest inhumanity to man in our century. But alas, I feel we learned nothing from it. Since then we have stood by and seen so much atrocity take place in other parts of the world. Why?

Today I am mostly interested in Kurdistan and the Kurds. I have a link to the Kurdistan websiteand if you know nothing about them, suggest you check this out. I am also outraged at what is going on in Algeria....the senseless violent slaughter of men, women and children which we in the USA know so little about.

We know so little about the rest of the world. But we can not be isolationists any longer.

I believe the Internet and this new medium will change the world in a way we have not seen since the Industrial Revolution. I only wish I would be here in another 100 years to see where it has taken us.

I believe each person has to take charge of him/herself and can truly be and attain whatever they wish. My father, an immigrant to this country, instilled in me two important things: 1. A strong feeling of patriotism for America and 2. any work is good, as long as it is honest work.

This quote from Albert Einstein says so much. "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."

Listen to some of the music I love by checking out some of the links listed below. I first heard "Adieu Mon Pays" (Good-Bye My Country) by Enrico Maciasin Israel in 1964.  It's haunting melody and words have remained one of my favorites to this day. As Enrico was leaving his homeland of Algeria by ship he gazed back and these words ran through his mind ...."As I am leaving my homeland...I am leaving my house, my life, my sad life...I am leaving my sun, my blue sea......good-bye my dear country of Algiers...lost to me forever."
