Tesla Coils
Vacuum Tube Tesla Coils and   Spun Toroids
Below are three photos of my smaller staccato tube coil.  This coil was original constructed about 10 years ago as two separate modules.  There was the actual TC module and a separate power supply module.  The old design was bulky and heavy, so I combined the modules into a single unit, and used a smaller variac and a level-shifted MOT instead of a plate tranformer to save weight.  The coil produces 15" sparks in both the continuous mode and the pulsed staccato mode.  The cabinet is wood with a phenolic and smoked Lucite front panel and a smoked Lexan rear panel.   See the old design!
Toroids and Metal Spinning Procedures

Spinning lathe with 2nd spinning form
Starting the 2nd spinning procedure.  Each toroid requires four main spinning procedures.  Lubricant has been applied.
Completed 2nd spinning shells before the finishing operations
The small lathe, spinning forms, and various tools and jigs
Completed 13" toroids before the final metal finishing operation.
Completed 4" x 13" spun toroid
after metal finishing.
