Years ago the owners of this land allowed people to camp
here and fish on the property (I was a lucky one who did both on several occassions).
But some folks abused the owner's kindness, and soon campsites were trashed,
people were driving 4WD vehicles next to (or even into) the stream, and
the creek was becoming fished-out. Well, you know what happened next...
the owners no longer allow camping, discourage "lookie-loos", and converted the stream to a Flyfishing Preserve (read that
as "You pay to fish, and release all fish caught"). If your tastes
run to fishing smaller creeks with abundant fish (Rainbows, Browns, some Brookies, and an occasional Golden), and you value your privacy while fishing,
then this creek is for you!
You find your way to Pleasant Valley Creek by turning at the Cutthroat Saloon in Markleeville, going 1 mile on Hot Springs Road until you see some old Squaw Valley tram cars on the left side of the road. Turn left and cross the bridge. Follow the main road until you see some water tanks and the pavement ends. Continue on the dirt road until you come to the next gate. If you have a permit, continue on through the gate.
