Coronado Bull Terriers
RESCUE
Adam
This is one of five dogs we rescued in the year, 2000. Adam named after the Adams County Animal
Shelter was obtained by us May 18 of this year. Severely malnourished, with numerous sores & lesions he weighed only 28 pounds. I cannot begin to tell you the feeling of sadness and anger that I felt as I looked at this dog. It was so very hard for such a long time to hold back the tears, but as each day passed Adam slowly gained weight. His sores slowly healed. He will probably always stay here, as unfortunately he also is deaf, but to date he is up to 42 lb. He is happy, healthy, and gives back to me more than his previous owners ever thought to give him. We take numerous walks to our pond in the back pasture, weather permitting, along with our own Coronado dogs, and he never leaves my side. They seem to sense the unfortunate life he has led. He is not a pretty dog, a Champion, nor is he handsome, merely someone's throwaway dog, one of many. He will remain here at Coronado, where he will never lack for food, always have a warm comfortable bed, good old fashioned country air, and plenty of love. Adam is only 7 years old.
Annie  We received a call about Annie from her owner, who had made the heartfelt decision to place her in another home. We made the drive to Wyoming to go pick her up. Her owner's decision was a very hard one to make. A puppy was brought into the household 2 years prior, to help ease the pain to her son, who had just lost his father. Katie never accepted this new addition to the family, who now shared her little boy. Hard as they tried to make it work, for 2 years it came down to keeping these two apart. While one was out, the other was put in a crate. This stress put a toll on everyone, especially Annie. Annie's new home was already waiting for her. A couple who had lost their last Stafforshire Bull in January at 15 years had a very empty heart that she was   ready to fill. Thank you Howard & Bridget for taking her into your home. Annie is 8 years old
We are not here to make judgment on the decisions that owners make concerning their dogs, we are here for only one thing, to help place these animals in a new loving and secure home.
Katie
Katie came to us in April 2000. She was surrendered to a local animal shelter, ONLY after her owners discovered that their newest addition to their family, a mature Akita male didn't care for Katie's presence. This encounter resulted   in over 40 stitches to Katie's face and chest area. She was brought to their local shelter, bloody and with open   wounds, only to be cast away there. The attending Veterinarian cleaned and stitched her up and The Basset Rescue   notified us that there was a bull terrier in the shelters possession. When Katie arrived here, I had her new family already   lined up. Her new owner had lost a Bull Terrier recently, and I couldn't think of a better home. The day arrived for the   new owner to meet their new dog. When Cheryl pulled up in the driveway, got out of her car, the first words that she   spoke when she saw Katie were "She's Beautiful". I knew that at that point, Katie would NEVER lack for anything   from Cheryl. And I was right. Katie has not been without other health problems, although only minor Cheryl has never   hesitated to make sure that Katie receives everything she needs.
Bless You Cheryl, and your Katie     KATIE & SANTA, Christmas 2000
Not every Rescue dog passes through our home. In fact we have been able to use the Internet to place dogs to new   homes. Every new prospective home has been thoroughly screened. Many of these people have had Bull Terriers before, and waiting on a Rescue List for a dog to match them can at times be rather lengthy. Two dogs that we placed this year were placed through this system. Both with very satisfying results.
LUCKY 4 year old Brindle Female
Lucky's owners were in a bind and desperate to find her a new home. They were being stationed to Germany and knew that they would not be able to take her with them. Having several wonderful people on a list, I had each one contact Martha, so that she could make the decision as to who would now have her beloved girl. Believe me, Martha was as particular and through as we are with each interview that she made. Gerald was the lucky home chosen for Lucky. Thank you Jerry for the updates on my e-mail. We are so very pleased that we could help Martha with her hard decision, and Gerald on his newfound Luckylu.
BUSTER 7 year old Brindle Male
Buster was picked up by a local animal shelter and remained there for the required 7 days awaiting his owners to claim him. When that didn't happen, another rescue person obtained him and put him in a boarding kennel for some 2 weeks. Finally I was contacted, and asked if I had any prospective homes. I linked up Lloyd and his wife Stormy to this person. They met Buster, took him home and the three couldn't be happier. Thank you both for the phone calls of gratitude. Enjoy your new boy!
There are no metals given out for doing rescue, no awards to be won. Only the personal gratification of helping dogs and people. If we can help any dog find a new home no matter where or what circumstance's we will give it our best. Whether we help through the Internet or in person, if we can help we will certainly try. We only wish to give back to a glorious and wonderful breed that has given us so much during the years.
Thank You, Regina & Terry May
